Hello all, I am posting this thread as i have searched and have come up empty handed....

Truck Specs: 1999 Toyota Tacoma, 2.7L, 4x4, SR5, manual tranny.

Here is my issue: Truck was driving fine until i came to a stop at a light, and suddenly the entire shifter was able to do a 360 degree turn. I am able to throw it into gears but it is a little challenging. Got the vehicle towed home and began to remove the boot. I removed the shifter, and found a metal piece in it. The metal piece (pins) that has been broken can be seen on the Picture (Broken metal piece on the right, the left one is still intact). So i think this might be the problem. My question to you guys is where can i find these pins? i went to the dealership today, and they told me that i had to purchase the entire upper housing, and when i agreed to it (Costs a little over $100) they told me it has been discontinued and don't make them anymore. I believe this might be the issue to my wonky shifter, because of the metal pin floating in the shifter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank ya so much in advance.

I'm looking. I saw a thread somewhere, sometime, that had that part number called out.

I think you need a whole upper plate - you can see the 4 bolts that hold it on at the edges of your pic. What you really need to do is find someone with a trashed transmission that can sell you that piece used.

Maybe try calling 828-633-0694 and see if they have one they can send you.

You should put a new shifter seat and bushing in while you have that thing off.

Thank you guys so much, i have resolved the issue.

I went to my local hardware store and purchased a thick headed screw and was able to grind it down in order to make it fit. Surprisingly it came out very well, and seems stronger than the stock screw.

MrRiverMan- Thank you for the heads up, i went to my local dealer and purchased new shifter seat and bushing, as the bushing when i opened it was completely disintegrated. My next move is to change the transmission fluid flush, any recommendation on what oil to put into it? Does it use regular toyota ATF although its a manual? I am also going to be changing the transfer case fluid, what do you guys recommend?

    Thanks ya'll!

90 weight gear oil is what the transmission and t-case use. If you want to go top end and spend $$, Redline MT-90 is what a lot of folks use. All other benefits aside, I pay the extra for it just because it's not nasty stinky like dino gear oil, so it's nicer to work with.

It's much quicker and less messy to pour the oil in through the shifter holes from the cab than it is to try to get it into the fill holes on the side/back of the transmission and transfer case. It's worth the time to pull those shifters back off when you flush the fluid.

Thank you, the tranny fluid has been ordered, I checked the transfer case fluid and it came out really clean, so wont be changing that (Same for my differential).

Thank ya so much for the valuable input.
