2017 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab 4X4 Pro
    None Thus Far
    Hello all,

New member to this forum. I'll a lifelong Toyota truck owner from the first one in 1977 to my most recent purchase in 2017. I just purchased a 2017 Tacoma Access Cab, 4X4 Pro. But decided to hold on to my 2001 Tacoma double cap 4X4 for nostalgic reasons. Too many times in the past have I traded in or sold an old truck for a new one and am lucky to be in a position today to not have the sell the old one.

Not sure if I will be doing much after market work on this truck, but will be upgrading and doing so to the 2001 just because I can. I did have some questions for anyone willing to take the time to respond.

What is the max lift one can apply to their truck without losing warranty or is any after market addition or modification a potential warranty violation risk? At the moment I'm looking for the best phone mount that is a seamless addition to the interior dashboard array. Any suggestions welcomed.

Looking forward to being a member here as I've never participated in a forum of this nature. Hope it's a good experience.

    Regards to all,

    Wayne

You'll probably enjoy your truck a lot more than you will the G3 forum. Take 50% of it with a grain of salt

Hello, welcome, though I am brand new myself. Got the cash for a used (8-12K likely) Tacoma, here to learn and take imputs (with the advised grains of salt). Likely one with at least jump seats, whatever the lingo for crew cab or the like.

    6 cylinder, most likely.

Thank you, Windsor. I also wouldn't mind a '56 Ford, Patina is ok, modern handling and motor is fine, just none of those tricked out interiors with the funky gaugess and little steering wheels (old school that way)--sorry, what is that in your avatar, which brought it to mind? And no offense regarding the modern interiors!

I think 6 inches is about as big as you can go with our modern trucks. I think 1984 is the last year toyota made a truck that really had no limits to lift. Welcome to the site and fun with the the new truck and project 2001. I also think that any modification done outside of the dealer may be potential to void warranty.
I think you should look for a double cab, as they have better resale values. The access cabs are still very nice and the 4.0 v6 is a very durable engine. You will like it very much no matter what you choose.

Much obliged, JaCado. Appreciate these stalwarts hold their value for good reason, but after giving a lady a ride and using a buddy's 2004 Colorado for the last year or more it is ready to retire at 309K and a major problem in the offing, discovered while smogging.

Just off the cuff, if it were yourself, what would be your MAXIMUM miles you'd be willing to look at (I could go a skosh higher in price, but after saving my butt off last year I've had a necessarily spendy last cpl months, and so I'd prefer to keep it roughly to said price range, give or take a thousand or so)?

I would say 125k, but that depends on the model too. If it's a 4 x 4 I would step lightly ,unless you know the previous owner very very well. Lots of yahoo's buy 4 x 4's and abuse the crap out of them not knowing how to use them or it was thier practice truck before upgrading. Have her checked and double checked. Do a search on here for common related maintenance issues and have them inspected before you lay down hard earned cash for someone else's problem. Just my 2 cents

This. Thank you. 125K is approx. where I was thinking, yes (under 130), and already noticed some suspected hard use while hunting the usual sights, i.e tires and interiors alone.

Really appreciate the advices on doing the homework, double checking, etc.

It was indeed hard earned (production line, 12 hour days, 6 day weeks often, 10 months straight last year).

Just remember you are not obligated to buy anything. you want to there is a difference. Search do not just settle, the truck you want is out there. Just be patient with it. I know the other truck sucks, but it should be motivation to find the right truck not get pushed into one because you want out of the old one.
