Hey, I’m a new member. Is anyone else thinking that that the transmission shifts weird? I had a 2006 Tacoma which I loved. Now I’m getting used to the new one any advice?

It might be me and getting used to the all the computers sensors and everything else. But I’ve taken it in to have the computer adjusted. I was just wondering if anybody else had this issue.

    Welcome,

I don't worry about it, if mine acts up, I stand in it (floor it) and then it behaves.
You got to let it know who's the boss.

That's what the warranty is for.

Seriously, no problems at 1000 miles

3rd Gen started in 2016. The computer programing has some malfunctions in a lot
of these, especially 2016 models. Some said they took theirs back for an update (re-flash)
the computer. Some have also said it reverted back to the same problem after a few months.
I read one post where they changed out their AT Fluid and it helped.

I would say that the transmission is fine, so is the motor. To me, the problem is the gearing ratios and the engine torque. It was not well thought out.
However, after a couple of flashes (077-16 & 062-18) the trucks drives a lot better

    Hey @Sparky2001 welcome!

    1. Did you test drive before your purchase?

    2. The trucks have a 3.5L Atkinson cycle engine which was designed for more fuel efficiency. However the transmission that they have provided with is has been unfavorable for most. I don't think there is a real way to fix it, but if you look up OVTune, it seems to be the go to mod to fix this issue in the ATs.

    Welcome to TW.

You are in the right place to learn about your new truck, as well as many other things

I would guess the majority of 3rd gen owners are happy with how their truck runs, but some owners are not- they are usually the ones who find their way to this forum, so you are in good company.

If you subscribe to the 3rd gen forum, you will see threads similar to yours pop up every few days, and by just reading them you will start to learn what options might be out there to improve your driving experience.

    Cheers.

It is a 6 speed in which two gears are overdrive gears and programmed for fuel efficiency. ECT and S4 work great for in city driving. Also, it comes alive when you press the gas pedal down like you mean it.
