Tom you just can't stop! Haha

Seriously though, 2.5" diameter shocks, Icon/Fox/King, are kind of like a supercharger... Expensive, but once tuned are well worth it!!!

The advantage of the 2.5" diameter shocks is mainly valving and cooling. A large diameter shock like this that has very sensitive and accurate valving, and of course is adjustable by taking it apart or a knob on the newer styles. Then the cooling is much better, which allows the valving to not fade. When shocks get hot the fluid moves through the valves easier, so your valving changes. You know, add that larger diameter and that means a lot for fluid! Add a reservoir and it gets real serious! All that fluid just stays cool for a very long time under heavy use.

This is why they tend to work better, or feel that way. Because of the extra cooling, and much better valves, the shock is able to stay consistent for much longer than an OME/Bilstein/Etc. That is why people say they feel better, because they don't change where a smaller cheaper shock is constantly having a different real life valving as conditions change. Then there are discussions about nitrogen mixing with shock oil vs certain 2.5" shocks that separate the two... That's another long discussion.

All this said, Tom, it's worth it if you wanna spend the money. You can play with coils and valving. They are super easy to rebuild/revalve and I can show you how to do it. You will feel a better ride around town and even better under load on the trail. There are some tricks we can talk about with longer softer could vs shorter stiffer ones to maximize your ride quality. Many people bolt them on and go, but like your supercharger, you can go from a good ride to a great one if you spend the time to tune! You would have fun sorting them out. Also discussion about brands, certain ones offer certain features we can talk about like rear diameter offerings, or reservoirs, etc.... Haha

Well goodbye New Mexico. It was a good trip.

If anyone hasn't tried "the cube BBQ" in Albuquerque, you should.

There are times I consider wiping out my savings and going on a spending spree. As for the 2.5" for the rears, that will require some research. They might not fit with the leaf packs at full stuff.

C'mon back now, ya hear. And bring your Taco too.

So I'm here in Las Cruces for a wildlife and fisheries conference. Anyways, I spotted a tacoma at the Wal-Mart. Anyone recognize it? It had a NM State front license plate and some stickers on the back.

Crate v8 or just any v8 swap? I've read somewhere that the 2 gen trannys were designed to withstand the power of a v8 I wonder if that is true if someone could somehow bolt one on and put it to the test! And nice choice on the 37s! If I could build a trail buggy or truggy it would have the bfg krawlers for sure!

:burnrubber: It will be a looong build. Kinda like 45acp's build. But I'm hoping to order a few large chunks of that sometime this year.
