New Mexico Owners BS Thread

I would love to put a Compustar in my taco, for a professional to install was triple the price of the alarm itself. If I could do it myself id do it tomorrow.

I had looked into a place in ALB called NM 12 Volt. They wanted to $200 installed for the system i wanted. I found the same system on Newegg for $65 and installed it myself using wire taps. Saved about $130 that way.

 

lol if I have instructions to follow, and wire labeling/map.. I can do it. I was installing the flood lamps and had to take the switch off the wires in order to fit it through the punch out slot.. my kid distracted me as i was doing that I forgot which way the switch went back on. should've went with my gut that was telling me to cut the electrical tape back so I could see what wires were what. I ordered a switch from Amazon yesterday that seems more sturdy and actually fits in the tacoma punch outs.

I installed my suspension myself! lol.. Also I build simple LED devices with arduino boards for work now and again... I also have for some reason become the lab equipment maintenance guru. I save them hundreds of dollars to hire the on site tech. lmao he probably hates me. I'd like to look at instructions first before I decide to take on the craziness... I guess keeping it neat and tidy is what I like best about taking it somewhere else because they know all the tricks.. maybe youtube has some help with that kind of stuff.. for my wire harness for my flood lights.. I poked/cut a hole in that rubber grommet looking thing, when i'm sure there's a better way to do that. lol

 

What I did was used the Wiring on the 12volt link i provided and compared it to the wiring that came with the system i bought. Then matched up which wires went where and typed up a word doc so that i knew which color went where from the alarm to which color in the truck. As I connected each wire, i just checked it off my list. Afterwards I tested everything out and it worked as it should. It took a little time, but for me it was worth it to save the money. I put it towards darker window tint to help further deter theft.

 

getting a quote from 12volt. apparently they're the only compustar dealer.

Unfortunately I don't see one for 12-15 tacos.

 

Hello Jessica, we would be starting at $749 installed.. lifetime warranty on both product and labor and if you are already asking about the T-11, you know how amazing of a system it is..!!

hmmm the alarm itself is around $500 i believe... maybe more. (from Amazon you have to buy all the parts separately.)

 

I was quoted well over a thousand for the t11 installed.

 

Sounds about right. Most places want $100-$200 for the install part alone depending on what features your alarm comes with.

I'm seeing one that says 2009-2015 Tacoma about 3/4 of the way down the list.

 

While we are on this subject does anyone know if it's possible to have the regular horn working like it usually does but have air horns go off if the alarm is set?

You should be able to wire them into an AUX output from the alarm system. I wired in my stock horn in addition to the siren the alarm came with that way. I image it would be the same, just wiring into the aftermarket airhorn instead.

 

Mine was the starting price as well, it was last summer though.
