If it's anything aftermarket, Go to Walt at TAV. Only place that I trust and go to now.

Wow, what a crock of crap. Wish I could help out more. Good honest and trustworthy mechanics are so incredibly hard to find these days. Im still in the process of finding a local mechanic in the Santa FE area that i would say is anything more than mediocre. Hopefully someone here will chime in with more info..... Sending my best.

@Watt maker , have your friend call Toyomasters. They are off San Antonio/I-25. The lady that answers the phone is the owners wife and likely won't know much, so have him ask for Chris, the owner.

I have been using these guys since 2001 and they have never let me down. They are the only shop I will allow to work on my vehicles, and they know their stuff. They are okay with aftermarket stuff as well. They saved my butt several times with my Supra when I was at my wits end and had exhausted my own knowledge and the information I could find online. I've had them do everything from timing belt service, transmission work, to a flex plate R&R, to basic maintenance.

    Dammit scold this morning! :turtleride:

I work directly across from the Balloon Park, and getting to work this week is a hassle. OTOH, I have a great view of the launch field & all the balloons going up.

I hope everyone remembers to put their woolen knickers on today!!

I maybe heading to ABQ soon to visit some old friends from school. I know the west side has developed vastly in the last 10-12 years is it still possible to go wheeling at the end of Southern out to the cliffs we used to call it rio puerco.

Re wheeling in the Rio Puerco, the answer is yes. There has been some back and forth about the legality of being on and/or crossing portions of that land, but law enforcement has not been involved. You will see some no trespassing signs on the way out there as you head west through the arroyo.

@pigger , when I left the house at 7:30 yesterday, the windows on the Tacoma all had a thin layer of frost on them.

I'm late to the party, but I'll also vouch for Toyomasters. Chis and his crew worked on my 1993 truck for the 20 years I owned it. Did a few valve adj, timing belts, plus a water pump and a clutch in that time. Also replaced the A/C compressor and converted it to a non R-12 coolant. Always tried to keep the price reasonable, and were helpful when I decided to do repairs myself, such as replace worn front suspension parts. I recommend them to anyone that drives a Toyota.

How much was it to get a timing belt and water pump done there?

If you are going out to the Puerco take weapons. Danger danger danger. I used to go shooting out there by the dunes, not any more.

I can't recall as it was a couple of years ago. I also had the valves adjusted and an A/C hose replaced. I'm sure they'll shoot you an estimate.
