What would you charge someone if they came and had you OVTune their tacoma? I'm guessing more than one of us would be willing to meet up and go down there.. not sure, but I'd be in.

I'd guess it'd depend. If it's a standard tune (one made by OVTune with no modifications) then it'd be cheap. It may also depend on what ECU ID you have. If you aren't 04A61, I think I need to pay to unlock it, at least if I need to make modifications to your specification. Most mods people want are pretty easy though, usually tire and/or gear sizes.

I have a 1grfe 4th gen 4R that needs tinkering. 33’s but also has the exhaust cam gears with 3 degree retard and an intake plenum spacer. I heard a tune would improve the exhaust gear benefits but other than that know nothing about tuning. Any input?

I only have my taco so can't offer anything for 4Runners. My tune knowledge covers basic (super basic) configuration, shifting schedules, and throttle management. Everything else I know, I know from members who guinea pigged with their own trucks on their own time and shared the wealth. I am only just now starting to understand more about how ICEs work but as of this moment plenum just sounds like a funny but also cool word and I want to figure out ways to incorporate it into normal conversation.

finally made a build thread since ive only had the truck 5 weeks and ive been handing out my CC number like candy so its getting hard to keep track of everything.

but mostly wanted to have an area to document the rear bumper design/build

Well today, because I felt like it I went back out to Rio Puerco, to scope out some side routes I found on google earth off of Saturday’s group run. So I went up and over every damn hill and rock I could find. Including rerunning all the obstacles we ran Saturday up to the playground.

Even found and ran a few harder obstacles. Though I was solo and was a little cautious. I’m psyched in the Puerco these days! Anybody wants to go out again I’m your man!

Red is the Saturday group run. Blue was my rambly route today.

This fun little loop off the main wash had to pretty big step obstacles.

This little runoff was so steep I got hung up on my skids on the way down :anonymous:.
So I got to use my Maxtraxx for the first time.

Awesome looks like you found a few good ones. There’s definitely a lot to explore, over by snoopy where we stopped for “lunch” there’s a couple other fun obstacles I bet you’d like. We didn’t hit them because it’s a bit difficult with the group we had.

Yeah all of the side shoots I found were fun. Rolling steep narrow hills and whoops. I found a few areas with challenging but doable ledges. I also found one proper hard loop off the wash with two pretty high ledges. My armor got a few new scratches.

I also ran a few different paths in the “playground” area. ⬇️

I’m psyched to be able get more confident in my off-roading skills so close to town!

almost endless fun to be had out there! what kind of backcountry map program do you use?

OnX seems to be a favorite amongst my hunting and hiking friends but wonder how well all of the old beatup forest roads are marked

Looks like the other screen shot is from Gaia but I know he's also using Avenza too. Avenza is nice because you can upload the MVUMs and topos from their library or you can import your own.

OnX Offroad just imports all the MVUMs & County roads so whatever is published as public info they upload and make available on the app. As we all know just because a road is listed doesn't mean it's drive-able but they are working on a community based program to get current info about current road conditions.

I think they all have their benefits but I personally enjoy Avenza (as I mentioned at the meet I make my own maps) & AllTrails. OnX and Gaia are good but I really dislike their organization.

I use Gaia Topo premium ($30 per year) because you can create layered maps. I typically use Gaia Topo as a base layer, then the NatGeo maps, then public lands the USFS MVUM layer , and USFS roads. So in areas like Utah and Colorado that have lots of NATGEO maps, that’s the base map layer and the MVUM roads are on top of that. In other areas the Gaia Topo is the base layer.

You can download shit loads of maps and quite detailed. I have all of NM, AZ, UT, CO. Plus you can import tracks from say jeeptheusa.com, trailsoutdoors, or even Alex’s track for the group run. You can creat routes, add waypoints etc.

In areas like Puerco where there aren’t designated roads I just downloaded Alex’s track onto a ESRI world imagery layer to a fine scale so I can see every wash and road as we pass it.

And here’s Alex’s route in blue, with all the little offshoots and obstacles I’ve done the last few days in other colors.

I also use Avenza because I grew up using the Benchmark state atlases and you can buy those though Avenza for your iPhone or iPad.

I’m a few deep also, but this thread used to be real quiet, it’s been very active lately. I can’t wait till I’m off on weekends to start going on runs.
