DAT suspension in abq does shock stuff. king, fox, etc. seems like they are the go to in down. I’ve never used them cause I think my king 4.0s and other stuff is bigger than what they do but can’t hurt to give them a call

I checked with them for Icon rebuilds, price isn’t bad and they said they can do it.

It has been years, but I have used the shop on base and they are limited. The one at Davis-Monthan in Tucson had 10 bays and all the kit.

I'm jealous but the one here doesn't seem bad. They have around 7 bays, most of which have lifts. Don't know what kind of tools they have on hand.

I forgot to mention they had a huge welding bay too. Honestly, I would personally visit the one here to see what they have.

Curious also about the price for a rebuild. I have Icons on my 4Runner and My right front shock is starting to leak it's going to need a rebuild soon.

I'm going this afternoon to get assistance with the coilovers so I'll be able to check out what all they provide.

I’m anal about things so I told them I would provide the kits and oil. They would provide nitrogen and labor. It was in the neighborhood of $500. Still haven’t got around to it. Think I’m gonna try myself just to learn how and then take them to a bike shop for nitro

Might be having a senior moment but I think Accessories Unlimited has a spring compressor.

    Where's that? ABQ or Alamogordo?

However, I did succeed in swapping. The base shop does have a wall-mounted compressor but they thought it wouldn't work. I rented some strut compressors from Autozone but there wasn't enough of a gap between the strut and the spring so only one of the compressors was able to grip it. The other began to slip and was looking mighty spooky so I called a knock it off and abandoned those. We gave the wall-mounted one a go and it worked. Bit of a pain to line everything up but it was secure.

Removing the springs is actually really easy once compressed. Lift the spring seat up and two halves of a silver clip will be exposed and can be removed. Then the seat falls off the strut, decompress the spring, and remove. Reverse for the new ones. I will say 14" was pushing it. There's a bridge for the top arms that compress that can run into the shock hat.

Took maybe 10 minutes per coilover. Cost $10 bucks for 2 hours of time. Gonna try to put it all together tonight with a rough alignment. Soon as my rough country speedometer calibrator arrives, time for new wheels and tires with a real alignment.

    Damn. Hell of a drive.

Everything is back on the truck and torqued down. Feel like I need to increase the preload a bit, maybe also get a spacer for the driver side for that damn taco lean. Test drive felt fine; no new vibrations or sounds.

Aren’t your coilovers adjustable? If so then there’s no need for a spacer.

I’m with PcBuilder on this one. I actually spoke to Accutune Offroad when they revalved and rebuilt my coilovers about the taco lean. They 100% recommend more preload on the drivers side coilovers and not to run spacers.

Alright NM kids, I got my shock relocate burned in and now I have these KING 25001-121A D/S OEM Performance Shocks to get rid of.

    4676A08E-6820-4F27-95E4-9F9A5651E848.jpg

They are ugly and have 70k miles on them and need rebuilt again. They currently have extended length shafts that work with expedition weight springs (All-pro expo etc) but it’s irrelevant because they need new shafts anyways.

Shafts are $85 a piece give or take and rebuild is $120 a piece plus seal kit $25 a piece, plus a gallon of shock oil $40. So ~$500 if you send them to Accutune. DAC locally may be cheaper?

Or new shafts, seal kits, and oil can be ordered and we can rebuild them in my garage? I have YouTube knowledge of such things.

They were $1078 new. I was thinking $200 for the pair? But who knows.

Wife is sick of looking at them. Any interest, let me know and we can haggle.

I think I’ll be heading to the beer meet tonight, we are cutting the bumper plates tomorrow so depends on how much CAD work I can get done during “work hours”. So might show up late but not sure yet
