Little bit of this and that
I completely understand as an AZ native myself (born in Flag and raised in N. AZ). The state has changed much in the last ~10 years that it's not even recognizable anymore.
NM has much to offer and is a bit slower paced by comparison to AZ (especially Phx). I don't have any specific intel to the Santa Fe area but I've always enjoyed my time there when visiting.

The weather this year isn’t indicative of how cold it normally is. It’s been weirdly warm.

Yeah, it’s been that way everywhere but I think we know what to expect. Either way we are excited to move back to a place with 4 seasons and not just hot and kind of cold. Less people…

Definitely less people. Santa Fe isn’t bad.

NM native here. Part of the magic of our home is that it isnt flooded with people, particularly transplants. So many places have been ruined by the influx of people and the exploding population, dont do that to New Mexico. Relocating to NM drives up the cost of living, forcing local families out.
There are a host of other issues (cultural, economic, ecological etc.) presented by transplants relocating here. If you care about NM, then come visit, but dont stay.

I feel the same way about Arizona, but I think it is to late for us.
Refugees from the Federal State of Kalifornistan are taking over! Pisses me off that they leave their state because of what it has turned into, then move to other states and want to turn it into the shit hole they left.
I live on the Arizona-New Mexico border, so I sneak across the border to explore as much as I can.

I feel your pain, my friend. Nothing makes me angrier than rich Texans and Californians relocating to an area, then trying to make it exactly like the place they just left, or worse, becoming Santa fakes.
We only need to look at Colorado to see an all too real threat of what could happen to us and our homes if people keep moving here.

I get it but I’m moving and NM is the place that makes the most sense for us. You’re better off with us than some of the others, trust me, you won’t even know we’re there. Also, there is no stopping the migration. I’ve seen it first hand here and it’s only a matter of time.

In other words "You cant stop us, in fact you should be grateful because we could be worse. We recognize this is a problem and we're going to be a part of it"
Sick dude, thanks for being a clear example of why we don't like outsiders.
Im sure you'll hear this sentiment echoed by all the native New Mexicans you won't see in Santa Fe

Military transplant from Lakenheath to Clovis back in 89. Moved around a bit after high school and ended up in Albuquerque. I didn't know this sub section existed.

Well, I'm glad I have property in Arizona and New Mexico. I love both of these States and I've lived throughout them my whole life.
I just wish the bad ones would stay in their own States, I know there's good people who want to exit these Communist States and find a better home.

My old company's district HQ was there, we referred to it as "Santa Flush."

Dude, we’re all natives of somewhere and none of us chose where that was. You’re obviously protective of your home, I get it, I was too. A shit load of people moved here and ran up the cost of living. I’m moving on from my home to somewhere else because that’s life and we have to do what we have to do. I could just look up a list of the shitiest places to live and move to one of those spots and give up on life and I’d prefer to find a place that is beautiful, has some good people and is geologically stable.
Yes, you’re a NM native and I’m a AZ native but were both just people trying to live and the only thing that is between us is some line in the sand that someone made long before either of us were born. Truth is we both live in what was Mexico so it’s not really either of ours. We’re all outsiders and just need to be a little more passionate towards other humans.

I tried to make it clear that I’m trying to be mindful of the place I look forward to calling my new home. I hope we run across each other someday on a trail and we can share a beer like two human beings.
