AVS did my whole suspension refresh, brake swap and cab mount relocate - can highly recommend Dominic & crew.

Also very down to explore - just have to get my new bedrack painted & swap the tent over!

Good to know, hopefully my parts will come in and can schedule to have Dominic and the crew at AVS. Do some great work!

Indeed! Thanks for all the recommendations for AVS, I think I've finagled scheduling to get the regear done down in central TX in July. Gotta order parts soon, planning on piecing together my own master setup kit using Toyota seals and bearings. Truck will be up in Santa Fe starting next week so if you see an Army Green DCLB with an Alu-Cab and Texas plates (for now) that's me or my wife.

Good to know that there is a reputable local place when the suspension needs a tune up!

I got crickets in the Southwest region thread and a few in the TX thread pointed me here (thanks @syswalla )

I'm headed up to Abiquiu for a week with the family (from Austin, TX). Truck will be packed with mtn bikes, golf clubs fishing, poles and some trail running shoes. I'd like to do some 4 wheeling while out there

I see a few good looking trails on OnX and wanted to see if anyone has recommendations to keep my on the dirt?
    • Any good fly fishing spots accessible by 4x4 only?
    • I'd like to drive 'up' with the bikes and let the kids cruise mostly down on a long trail if possible. Clara Peak?
    • Hoodoos and Caldera look the most technical from OnX ... good trail? Any others?
    • recommended golf course?
    • any 'must stop' food in the area? (El Farolito in El Rito is on the list)
If anyone is in the area and wants to hit the dirt don't hesitate to reach out.
    Thanks -- Dave

If you want some 'fancy' food check out https://www.nosanm.com/

Also Mamacita's Pizzeria I've heard is good, inconsistent hours so we still haven't made it in ourselves but we try every time we drive by.

I'm not sure what route you are taking up to Abiquiu but Hoodos and Calderas is a nice drive I'm not sure that its all that difficult or off roady but I have a few routes listed below.
    - If you are around Albuquerque for any length of time check out "Coyote mesa Trail" its fairly short and has some good obstacles. If that's something you want to run let me know and I'd definitely try and meet you out there to run it.
    - A bit out of the way but west of Rio Ranch there is the "Puerco" that has miles and miles of trails the trail head is roughly her "35.24353, -106.86301" I'd recommend a good portion of the day to explore out there. Again let me know if you're around I may try to head out there.
    - FR 376 "Gilman Tunnels" is a place people like to check out, its a mostly flat kinda washboard road. If you do the whole route this will take out out to HWY 126 to the start of Hoodos and Calderas.
    - If you head up FR 376 (just east of FR144 @ HWY 126) you can take that road up to a parking area. I's about a 1/2 mile walk but this will take you up to the San Antonio Hot Springs. I haven't been in a long time but there may be some people around.
    - If you follow HWY 126 north then east from Fenton Lake you will wind up at the intersection of HWY126 and FR117. 117 is a short trip some pretty easy off raoding but this will take you out to FR315 which will wrap arounf to FR144 (Hoodos and Calderas)

I'm not really a huge help with your other questions but hope that gives you a bit of guidance. Either way enjoy the trip!

Thanks for the tips. I am enjoying exploring the area around Abiquiu - definitely more overlanding than rock crawling but beautiful nonetheless. I may try to get a drive down to Gilman's but golf and mountain biking may win while my younger one gets comfortable driving in the dirt around this area.

I would post in Desert Valley Overlanders on Facebook and tag Scott Parker he should be able to provide some good info on recovery.

I’m in town visiting about 30 minutes from espanola. I’m tied up today. But if it’s still there and you think a winch and / straps will do it I could meet you early Saturday morning.

I have a pair of total chaos upper control arms (and uniball press “tool”) that need a full rebuild (new uniballs, bushings, bolts, misalignment spacers) these cost $800 new. The parts to rebuild it fully from TC would be $500. Asking $75
