    Uggghh!!!

Ok -- so, what will I need to lift the truck -- No spacers for me. If I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it, ya know?

If I go with billies, which may work for now, what do I need? Is it literally just 4 new shocks and the truck sits up another 3 inches? What about the diff relocation? UCA's? Is the rear driveshaft long enough?

If you with billies which a lot of people do since you hate spacers. You wont have to set anything different everything will be stock and fit fine. Yes, Its basically just 4 knew shocks that you set to the tallest height. You dont get 3 inches from the 5100s you get 2.5 which will be enough for the 285s but your probably gonna have to some sleight trimming. Whats the offset of the new fj wheels ur getting because with the stock offroad wheels you can fit 285s but you will rub on your UCA which means you gotta get different rims or wheel spacers and im sure you dont wanna do wheel spacers

Excuse my ignorance here -- I don't know much about much, and this is something I REALLY dont know anything about.

The offset is 15. Is that measured in inches? i would imagine offset is something like the amount of space between the wheel and the hub? This space is not enough with stock wheels to run 285's because the height of the tire rubs the control arm, or the width? Are wheel spacers a safe option, (can they be wheeled on without breaking, etc?). I can still, obviously, run the 265's on the wheel that has 15 offset, right? Is this why guys are upgrading the control arms? Or is that a distance issue, or a fitment issue because the lift of the truck causes the geometry to change?

I'm not no pro at this but I've learned a few things some people do use the wheel spacers but some say there terrible and will break but alot of others like them most of them use the brand spidertrax wheel spacers i would have used those if i used my stock wheels but i bought new shoes. So if you keep your stocks and put 285s they would rub on your UCA thats why people switch it out with a new one. People also switch it out because it would also be better in the long run with bigger tires anyways. I think if your going with the new fj wheels and want to try 285s i think your fine I've seen it on a couple other tacos out there. The stock is close to the UCA so if you get bigger tires thats why you would rub. Like you said its a lift sorta changes the geometry of the truck. Basically if your gonna do one thing your gonna have to do a few other things. Like a Leveling Kit which doesnt even change the ride of the car and isnt as expensive and you dont gotta change a whole lot. Since your switching it up with new wheels you probably could fit 285 but u need the lift to fit it. You could start with a lvling kit to fit the tires and when you have money u can go for the entire 3inch package of lift if youd like

If $$ wasnt an issue, Fox, IVD, or King coilovers... but THATS not realistic, so...

one option: Toytec ulitmate lift kit kind of nice cause its all inclusive. but picking each item you want is nice, and some could be gotten used or on the cheap...
I am holding a set of 4 billies, Diff drop down kit, rear axle shims, (thanks Hieu) LR UCAs and i have 265 /70/16 (?) bfgs.
i want : Eibach coils, Dakar leaf pack, extended brake lines (prolly a good idea)
to start, and then sliders, bumpers/skids/ and satoshi...and a CAI ...maybe... and a wench... must have a wench...:] jk.!

I forgot OME has a lift kit through Toytec that looks sick ... and chris4x4 has recommended OME shit in some of the older suspension posts, so thats a very good option for not nearly as much $$ as IVD or fox...

but basically i think a set of billlies, 884 (or 5 ) coils and AAL or leaf pack and UCAs is a good start (plus all that other shit.) .so. yeah. not to repeat myself or anything...
    :]

i looked at stage one, but i would utilize my stock coils and they have been pretty cranked since this revtek kit, then again i could just get new ones but id be pretty much at the stage 2 level, so many choices i even pondered about the toytec 3" ultimate lift, i was reading on the boards that rcd or somehting maked a 4.5" lift but from what i read it runs just as much as the 6" procomp setup.

so many choice i guess if i went with the stage 1 setup i could get new tires as well

Watch out on Four Wheel parts. They may raise the price of the lift kit during the free install promotion to compensate the cost. You think you're getting a deal but you might not be.

They do it all the time on their buy 3 tires get 1 free deals. I was watching a set of tires waiting for the deal to come up. I can't remember the exact price but let's say the $200 tires automatically switched to like $250 tires during the promotion and switched back to the lower price after the promotion. Instead of $800 total it was like $750. You saved some money but certainly not the deal they made you think you were getting.

I thought that was pretty shady. I've pretty much given up on them since then.
