If the cap is for a subwoofer application, then it's only handling the kick drum & maybe some of the bass guitar. Those notes are occurring maybe 2-3 times/second at most. A capacitor charges at the RC time constant, that is typically measured in microseconds (1/1,000,000 of a second) so the cap should recharge much faster than it's being discharged.

What is the capacitance of these caps? How many microfarads, or farads? If that was known, the recharge time could be calculated, assuming a pretty low resistance/impedance of the battery/wiring circuit.

I don't see a need for a cap for an amp being used for the full-range speakers in the system, as that is a much more constant load, and would not have time to recharge, as was stated previously.

However, I am not a car audio expert at all (I'm an electronics/avionics displays & controls technician), so I may be overlooking some aspect of the situation. I'm OK with S'ing TFU about it.

I'm also not trying to start a shitstorm here. :D

If you wanna take the cheap way out yes... lol... you don't do the 3 right then...

    1) alternator positive to battery positive
    2) battery negative to chassis
    3) engine ground to chassis. Some people replace the factory wiring; others add additional cables to the factory wiring.

Do you know how many grounds there is for an engine??..........

I bet you have a pretty good idea after doing so much engine work on your truck. :D

    How is that going, BTW?

Mine is a little small, I'm running a 1.7k farad Cap. And I'm pushing a 1000 watt class D amp into a 2 ohm mono load.

    LOL I said Load. :D

1.7k farads? As in 1,700 farads? I had no idea they were that big. That might take a little longer to recharge.

Edit: That's also big enough to produce potentially lethal amounts of power to a human being. Low voltage, but seriously high current.

Lol... I figured your form of the big 3 would be the "real" way... since you did competitions as well.... not trying to argue or anything just informing of what I was taught and learned over the years of this crap... to me it's a waste of money now... I wish I had all that money back now and invest it in motor work or go fast goodies... at least that would give me a headache but make it all go away once I hit the skinny pedal and it worked properly....

Thanks man. I'll take everyone that wants to go for a ride in it. It will be like a roller coaster...

Especially considering that NM has only a little over 2 million people in it.

2,059,179, to be precise, making us 45th in population density of states in the U.S. .

What color is your Taco, TT?
