Just joined here. My 2000 Tacoma std cab 2wd 2.4L auto trans is showing the crankiness of middle age after 10 years of spoiling me. So I join here to find answers and share what I've learned. Currently I'm on the learning curve about sinking exhaust valves and have at least one useful data point to share with respect to shims. My application for this truck is somewhat unusual. It's my everyday driver/hauler/parts chaser/grocery getter. I was looking for minimum physical size in a truck as long as it had a 6 foot bed that would make it suitable as a one man camper. I wanted good gas mileage; but the need to pull any of several small trailers out of my steep hillside driveway dictated the need for an automatic transmission. I did a good bit of work outfitting it for the camping mission and will share some of that with pics in a later post. I'm a retired mechanical engineer and a lifetime hot rodder stuck on Ford flatheads and the kinds of cars they powered, both drivers and racers. Lately I'm into landspeed racing at Bonneville; but still a ways from fielding my own car out there. Happy to be here. Looks like good company.......... Ed Weldon

Chris -- I live in the Santa Cruz Mountains midway between Los Gatos and Santa Cruz. My car project for the Salt is a good bit more modest than what's needed to get a red hat (Bonnevlle 200 club symbol). Still a year away from running and that's if everything goes right which never happens. ....... but stay in touch..... Ed
