So I’m looking to put on a new exhaust on my 09’ taco. Mainly because the peice of pipe that’s visible when looking at the back of the truck is rusty and dirty looking. Also because I wouldn’t mind changing the sound of it neither. I’m leaning towards a flow master 40 or maybe the 10 series.

Anybody have suggestions for a quality throaty sound but not obnoxiously “hey look at me” sound?

This will be my first time changing an exhaust on any vehicle I’ve owned so I’m not to knowledgeable on this topic. Any advice would help. Thanks

You could always chop off the last part of the exhaust:

Sounds awesome. I was not expecting much, prepared to take it off actually since it’s a V6 and all, but it sounds great. Growls at low RPM, not much different than stock as you get higher in the band.

TRD exhaust has a good sound. Not loud but it rumbles a bit.

Do this and call it good. I’ve tried several exhausts and they all suck in some way

Hard to get a deep rumbling sound from a 60 degree V. The exhaust pulses are too close together. 90 degree V's have uneven exhaust pulses that usually net a deeper sound.

In-line blocks and 60 degree V blocks are ideal for 6 cylinder engines as they are inherently balanced.

So you’re kinda chasing ghosts with our 1GR engine

I get it. I know I can’t achieve the sound a full size truck produces. a little growl with sound that can at least be heard. Because I feel our trucks are two quiet anyway. If I can get that Ill be happy with it

Glad to hear that you're happy with that 40 Series! Any plans on posting a sound clip? Thanks for your support!

I can try sometime. It never seems to really show you how it sounds through a cell phone video. It is surprisingly similar to a 40 Series I put on a 1995 Dodge Ram with the 360 a long time ago. Most people will say I’m lying but it sounds just like that truck did! A little less loud wide open, the same at low RPMs.
