Im going to be replacing my muffler assy on my 2002 Tacoma.
Directly after the catalytic converter is a sensor mounted on the muffler assy just after the cat and just before the muffler but the sensor mounting is part of the muffler replacement assy and this sensor is protected with a metal splash sheild.
Anyway my point is that since this will be a pain to remove and being right there at the time of the muffler replacement then wouldnt it be best to go ahead and replace this sensor at this time ?

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
It won't hurt to replace it. Get the OEM denso sensor though.

    Sounds good.
I believe its going to cost me around 150.00 give or take for the sensor and thats why I was asking.
Not to mention that it seems so convenient to replace the sensor at this time considering that the sensor has to be removed to replace the muffler assy anyway.
    Thanks

    Pretty much stock right now
    This!

The rear downstream (can't find the price I paid) is a little cheaper than the upstream (a little over $108 with shipping). I just replaced both. Got them at Rock Auto and used the current Tacoma World 5% discount code. Now just waiting for the CEL light to go out.

Well thats interesting because I didnt know Denso was considered OEM on this item. I looked up that downstream sensor on Rockauto and it would be about 100.00 cheaper than from Toyota.
Now Im also reading info that its best to replace both the upstream and downstream sensors at the same time. Does anyone agree ?
    Thanks.

Toyota has a 25% ownership of Denso.

Totally your call. Most people change the bad one without issue or having a negative effect on the upstream sensor. You're only changing the rear out of convenience, not necessity.
