Northumberland County's Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area (AOAA) is currently in the planning phase. The proposed facility covers multiple municipalities located in southern Northumberland County. (Coal Township, Zerbe Township, Mount Carmel Township, East Cameron Township, West Cameron Township, and City of Shamokin)

They've been working on getting the legalities & permission for that for YEARS now. A lot of open land up in those areas...used to wheel in those areas about 10 years ago.

I wonder how they're going to tackle it. Will they charge a fee to go there?

The area is soooo huge and I know the locals go there regularly to go offroading.... In fact, I thought you could get a permit from the State/township to legally be allowed to wheel up there $$?

And after the park is officially open, and the area is sooo huge...How are they going to keep the locals OUT who haven't paid to be there?

Good questions Jan. I've been there too, but to ride quads. I think it was two years ago. We didn't pay anything to camp there. It was first come, first serve as far as "camp sites" went. I will say that it is dusty as hell........coal dusty. It took 2 days before some of it would come off. And my boogers were black for a week. :D

I have some many many fond memories of wheeling up there.....but it got downright scary seeing the people who hang out there (offering us dope, pot, beer, etc). Hearing guns & shotguns....people dumping stuff illegally.

I wonder how they'll control all that from a business standpoint, since its been a free-for-all for all these years.

I hope it turns out well for them & the business!!

When I was there last (2 years ago), it wasn't too bad. There was litter here and there but nothing outlandish. The group I went with policed their trash plus some of the trash that was left behind previously.
