While not entirely necessary, you can also control the flow with the Motivx version.

One always comes with my filter so no need. For some reason I thought all filters included them, but guess not. Very good item to have.

Most filters have a plastic plug included not the screw-in Motivx. But if one can use that plastic plug, good enough.

I mount the little plastic gizmo (that comes with the filter) onto a foot long hollow metal tube and then jam the gizmo into the filter housing hole. I direct the other end of the metal tube into my drain bucket and out flows the filter housing oil. Works great every time.

The only advantage the Motivx tool gives ... and not even necessary at that ... is that the Motivx tool screws into the housing first without opening oil flow, than position the the drain tube and under control screw in the second part of the Motivx into the housing to release the oil. Some probably love this two-step, others do not need it.

The MotivX drain tool has a grip-able/screw on valve.

I bought the Kit that did not include the filter wrench.

    It's a good amount that pre-drains.

I have a metal screw-in one that never works. It’s too hard to get threaded when fighting spring tension. The cheap plastic things that come with the filters work fine. Just jam them in.

I bought motix knockoff on Amazon and trimmed the surgical tube that came with it to hang below the rim of my drain pan. No complaints.
