    Hi gang,
Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm Steve from Denton MD. Bought my Tacoma new in 2008 got 88000 miles on it and only had a few problems. The compressor on the A/C just went out the other day and decided to check here for some moral support and maybe some secrets to replacing it. I am having the local dealer price it out for me as I type and really not looking forward to their answer. Just may be my next project. I am very well versed in motorcycle repair and restoration but not so much with my truck, the dealer has done all the work on it from the beginning. I

I'll be looking through the threads to see what I can find.

    Thanks for having me.

    STEVE

I'm with you on that. Is there something else I should be looking at first? Maybe a relay? It made a squeal and then it smelled like something burning then I shut it off and when I started it the pulley was turning but the clutch wasn't bringing in the compressor, that's why I think compressor. I would like to be wrong.

Where abouts in Denton? I run around town all the time, usually on my Heritage. I have a friend who lives in Greensboro. Funny how small the world is.

Just an update, I got that call from the dealer, $1700 if he used a kit with new compressor, expansion valve, receiver dryer, condensor and O ring kit. So I bought the same kit online for $391 and will put it on myself. I have a friend who is A/C trained. Any suggestions before I get under there and start bustin knuckles?

    Update..

I installed the new compressor and condenser, it was quite a job but it went well. My buddy charged it up and it is as it was new. Saved huge amount of money doing it myself and gave me greater confidence for future endeavors. Thanks for your support.
