Hi in 2000 I was in the market for a new vechile.. I really wanted a Toyota truck, but could only afford a Ford Ranger. I loved that ford Ranger and was going to drive it until the day it died. It was very reliable. Someone stole it 2 weeks ago. Having medical issues it's pretty important that I have some reliable transportation. Truck is great because it allows me to replace things that need to be replaced in my apartment.

I got lucky. I stopped in at my mechanic and his friend also a mechanic had a Toyota Tacoma 1998 5 speed for sale. It has 155K miles, I was a bit hesitant at first since it was as old as my ranger and had as many miles. after looking online I see those little trucks are like goldmines I guess because they dont make them anymore. I bought it yesterday/today.. it took two days for me to complete everything (health issues) I haven' t driven it much yet, but just going to smog and DMV and back home. Wow! That thing felt like a little sports car! Much smoother than my old Ranger.. maybe she will come back to me at some point. Time will tell.

In the meantime I am really loving this Tacoma!
I do have a few questions though.
    1. I am short and I can get the bench seat pulled up almost far enough but i can't get the back section of the seat to set up straight. it's ok but not for someone with a right side neck issue. I can easily fix this with some foam or something. But does the back of those bench seats just not set up straight?

    2. the wiper blade speed has Mist- which goes 1x with the flip of your finger on the lever..and the slow, med, fast . the cool thing about the ranger was it had like an intermittent setting which was very handy.

the guy I bought the Tacoma from put in a new clutch, did some straps ??to the suspension? very smooth ride, also pretty new breaks seems (all this is a bit of an upgrade for me, since the ranger at 155k miles didnt yet need any of those things except the clutch.. I do think it really was time for shocks and springs on the ranger though.)
when I looked underneath it yesterday I noticed the bellow book had a leak so he replaced that too. It kinda looks like either someone ran into the front end or he ran into someone. The title is clean and there is no damage to the front end other than the bumper.
it rides/ drives like a dream. I feel very fortunate to have been able to get this truck.

    3. wondering about the timing chain? He did not replace that..is this something I should take care of ? maybe I can find an owners manual.

Ideally at some point I may want to change out the seat.. since i am so short if i have any passengers they will be mashed in since i have the seat pulled all the way up.! a good reason to keep riding solo!

oh also I have a cap /(not sure what you all call them here? ) camper-shell topper that fit on the ranger, wonder if it will fit on the Tacoma? Tacmoa also has a bed liner.

this seems like a really cool group and there is alot to learn here which I really appreciate!
I hope I haven't asked too many questions?
I will look more tomorrow here and see what else i can learn
    thank you!
