I feel for the people who bought new never been titled trucks that were lifted/modded by dealers and are having dealers tell them tough titty on this current issue. It's a really crappy situation for them. Having the dealer do the mods implies warranty protection. Don't have as much sympathy for those who modded the trucks on their own.

    FYI

Where is live there is going to be a 10% to 20% discount (exact figure not decided yet) on insuring any vehicle with TSS (or similar automatic braking systems from other makers), starting next year. The system must be proving its value in saving the insurance corporation money, or they wouldn’t bother with this.

In truth, they are going to dramatically raise rates for the rest of us non TSS folks, and hold them steady for TSS equipped vehicles. That could mean a $200-$400 savings on insuring a new TSS equipped Tacoma for a year.

Took it in for 1st service and the recall on Saturday. I disconnected the raptor lights. Dealer gave no problem at all with the front bumper guard. The service representative told me that there are 6 different remedies based on model and diagnostic test. For mine they did some ECU scan and found no faults so they just put the shroud over the sensor. Easy peasy. Dealer is Peoria Toyota.

Just got the letter today. I have the FreshMexicanTaco grille and garnish. No errors on the dash and no malfunctions while driving. I don't plan on taking mine in.

Taking mine in this morning. I don't anticipate any issues since grill, suspension and tires are still stock. I do have a pro grill on my to-do list, as well as wheels and tires once the OE wear out. But I'm rethinking this until this issue settles down and Toyota figures out how to satisfy all of the modified Tacomas out there. Something's got to give.

I also notice in the repair instructions that were posted, that in some instances a seal is place around the grill edge. Wondering how that would work out if you need to remove the grill.

I found a sheet of thin flexible foam with a sticky back side. I cut it in a square. I formed it right to the sensor. I had my friend hook it up to the scanner at Toyota yesterday after shop hours and I had no codes. He said no issues, leave it be. I'm lifted, 265/70s and a pro grill. I'm good and Toyota can kiss my ass on this matter. Oh and I got my pro exhaust installed a toyota tech after work.

Just leaving the dealer now. Mossy Toyota said they wont do the recall bc my truck is lifted. At least they gave me the memo from Toyota and the customer service number to call and I have an open case for it. Made sure to mention they have a lifted Tacoma on the lot and if its had the recall done then it should be noted that it violates the terms of the memo. And btw the memo says that Toyota DOES NOT RECOMMEND to do the service unless in stock condition. Not that they wont. Here's a photo of the memo. Not sure if anyone else has posted it. I stopped trying to read through all the pages at page 7. I'll post when I get word back from Toyota about this

Maybe this is why my sensor alarm randomly chimes when nothing is in front of my truck. Anybody have a hack to set this function off by default( short of entirely disabling the sensor)?

if they won't do the recall because of mods then they should turn off the TSS system and not charge me for it

You can turn off PCS in your settings menu on the dash. It's what I did for now

don't you have to do that every time you turn your car on? that's annoying. I just want them to turn it off completely.

Sitting at the dealership now, o ly thing that may have caused them to botch would have been the front camera.

So I just sniped a couple zip ties and removed it. Easier then dealing with the BS excuses about the tech having to mess with it while removing the grill.

Yes you do have to do that every time. I'm hopefully going to get them to turn it off altogether as well.

We all should take pictures of Tacoma's being modified by the dealer and send them to corporate, that would be the best practice to do in my honest opinion. I feel for the people buying this trucks already modified that don't even have the stock parts etc, going thru this bs.

So let me get this straight. The difference between the Pro and and OR in regards to the grill height/angle is due to 1" difference in front suspension. And because of this Toyota will not update our trucks. So does that mean the TSS should be deactivated anytime enough weight is put into the bed of a stock Pro that would lower the rear and changing the angle of the front end? Or same in the case of towing? Kinda similar situations. What if the tire pressure is too low? All rhetorical. Just venting.

I will wait until Toyota gets called out by the NHTSA and they have to change this to a "Safety Recall". At that point I am sure a lawyer will get involved that will change the game and require Toyota to fix all trucks no matter the mod status.

    Ridiculous.

I mentioned the fact that mossy Toyota had a lifted tacoma sitting out front to the customer service rep. and I agree that we should take pictures of all the trucks lifted by dealers. seeing as how those aren't toyota parts
