It never officially went out and never had an issues with braking, just did the recall for the potential leak and they replaced the whole thing with a new version

Recall doesn't apply to Off Road or Pro models as they have a different (beefer) master cylinder. Or so I've been lead to believe.

Also, is there any fine print when you buy a truck that says modifications would disqualify you from safety recalls? I get you could be disqualified from warranty work. But if I got in an accident and no where at the purchase mentioned safety recalls are off the table by doing mods I would think I have a case. Maybe not?

I just always took it as, any modification from manufacturer build, you take a risk and assume all responsibilities.

Because you modified it so Toyota thinks it's unsafe. If they fix it then they will assume responsibility(because they tolerated your mods) in an accident caused by it's failure. They can't blame your mods causing the failure. Easy way out for them
If you're driving and suddenly brakes were applied by itself Toyota is off the hook because you modified a safety gadget. Changing the location etc. It will be blamed on your mods .

I believe it's because the brakes are electrically activated so it can be used with the crawl control systems. Where vehicles without that feature are just foot activated.

Dealer called today saying the parts were in for recall, then asked if any mods ie bigger tires or grille, said yes, they said Toyota is working on modified vehicle fix and can't help until then, they agreed with me most of their customers with TRDOR trucks have at least bigger tires and they haven't been able to do the recall on a number of trucks.

    What dealer and where?

I'm still pissed off and it's been more than a day.

They service tech even told me to just temporarily put my OEM grill back on for an afternoon just so he can do it. Then swap back to my "pro" grill.

What a pile of crap. What a game. Just do the damn fix, apply your bullshit 3M tape and reprogram the damn chip and be done with it.

So, how's everybody doing this evening?

Peterson, in Idaho. The person who called me did say if the unit fails, even with my mods they will replace the actual unit, depending on how this all goes down ill write to Toyota corporate and ask why one dealer will do things this way and the other won't. It should be standardized. I will keep this truck for years so i'm not concerned about an open recall, I just don't want it applying brakes and creating a problem on accident.

so its not a safety recall yet. which is part of the reason why they can decline you. its a "special service campaign" which means they can decline us. their main reason being that any alterations to the vehicle from stock changes the preset parameters that the sensor is calibrated for. which is how they are declining guys with pro grills on non pro trucks because Pro models are a different height. all a bunch of BS to save them some money as far as I can tell at this point.

Mine is a 2018 TRD OR DCSB and I did not get the recall notice for the brake master cylinder but when I took it for the 5k mile service, the dealer wouldn’t let me take my truck back because the brake pedal was extremely low and considered it a safety risk. They kept my truck overnight and performed the recall fix by replacing the master brake cylinder. The moment I got my truck back and started driving it, I asked myself how is it that I was driving my new Tacoma with no brakes? What a difference it made with the new brake master cylinder.

Hmm, well since it's a different master cylinder than the one involved in the recall that is strange for sure. Maybe the one you had (different than the recall version) also failed which is concerning because that potentially opens up a lot more vehicles for issues.

Dealer who is normally really cool denied me the recall today because of the pro grille. Told me to put the OEM back on and then swap it after the recall. Such crap.

The problem with putting on the original grill for the service campaign work then switching back to the pro/faux grill is that the different grills require different placement of the sealer pad material.

I experienced this sensor failure while driving at highway speed in very heavy rain. Message informed me that my radar based cruise control would no longer be functional. That message went away when the rain subsided. Took it in. Dealer tested the sensor per the recall. Sensor failed. Part ordered. Will be replaced as soon as I can get back to the dealership

    stock a fawk!
So I’m at the dealer right now. They refused to even take the car in because I have a hidden lightbar. I basically pulled the bar out in front of the service advisor. Threw it in the back seat. And said “okay all Toyota parts now”. Knowing damn well my Pro grille is Chinese as fuck! They took it in. Wish me luck boys lol
