My Sport with an OEM Pro grille had the recall done last week. No questions or comments from the dealer. Paperwork also indicates the recall was completed.
About an hour ago (I’m still shaking) I gave the system a test (I was stupid and not paying attention - looking at a Taco I was passing when the car ahead slowed to turn left). The loud beeping brought me around. The truck started hard braking an instant before I started braking. Stopped about 2 feet behind the car in front. I think I may have avoided an accident without the assist. But damn glad it worked.

Just made an appt. for the recall and my oil change. I have the OEM Pro Grill. They ordered me a new sensor. Should be good to go next week.

And by the way. I have to sign something saying they aren't responsible if the Shite hits the fan.

I took my truck in last week for the 10K service. Long story short, they ordered the parts for the recall and I brought the truck back in this morning.

My truck is an OR with a OEM Pro Grill and a 2" lift. The recall involved the repair kit for a Pro truck and a refresh for a Pro. I also had to sign a waiver - paraphrasing: that I've modified my truck and that if the unit doesn't work as planned, it isn't Toyota's fault. This being TW, there are going to be a whole raft of idiots who will shit the bed over this. I, however, lifted my truck and recognize that this may have an impact on the WMS. I had no issue doing it.

I had a long conversation with the Service Manager. Toyota released the recall without grasping the myriad configurations that owners modify their trucks -specifically ride height. In the beginning, this led to some confusion - and truth be told - there is probably still confusion within the dealerships. However my dealer has been instructed to apply the recall and have been given instructions on how to accommodate common modifications.

They also noted that Toyota will probably make the sensor location constant by 2021 - meaning that it may move out of the grill and into the bumper, or they may chose a consistent mounting point along the trim lines.

They also recommended that anyone dealing with a service department that is confused about how to handle the situation to call Toyota directly. It was noted that this is how they got set straight...a customer called Toyota directly and complained that they got turned away without the recall being performed. The dealership received notification from the local service rep immediately on how to address the situation. They have not done his truck yet. Mine was actually the first. Yay me.

So after numerous threads and countless pages of tampon rending, this is where we're at. I fully expect there to be continuing discussion by the forum armchair legal experts and third world mechanical engineering Einsteins on how fucked up Toyota is. The Magnussen-Moss act will be incorrectly referenced at least a half dozen times by people who have never litigated it and things will get messy. I, for one, revel in the hot mess that is TW.

This first world mechanical engineer (unfortunately 24 IQ points lower than Einstein) would like to know; did you happen to take a picture of the waiver? :)
Also, did they forget to disable your radar cruise and emergency stopping, or did Toyota backtrack that requirement a little bit?

    Thanks.

The waiver is a stamp on the service receipt. I did not take a photo of it. The explanation was that it was due to the lift...not the grill. They were also very clear that they recalibrated the TSS based on the lift. The tech went over the procedure with me. It's not throwing any warning lights...then again it was working fine before.

There was no mention of disabling anything.

As has been stated in this thread by others, Toyota just started rolling out the recall fix for "modified" vehicles. I'm sure that in the ensuing week, more people will come forward with their horror stories about how Toyota is actively fucking them.

This. Was ambivalent to TSS. Now I am so glad I have it on my truck. Pity the fools who think they are superheroes.

It has been constantly raining in my area. Pre-recall "fix", truck would constantly give TSS error partially disabling function. Would be annoying during highway rain to have to stop and wipe the front side of the sensor only to have it alert again. Turns out it was the other side that was the problem. Since the band-aid, no problems.

So those having to wait around for their dealership to take their thumbs out of their asses, it would help that annoyance by just putting friggin" pre-chewed bubble gum on the top of that sensor. Or anything to keep water from dripping down on it from above.

If they removed the grill to apply the band aid (they did), then they must recalibrate the system. If you get an alignment done, you need to recalibrate the system. Not all shops have the Recalibration machine, so you get it done at the dealer.
Toyota can say they have to recalibrate because of your lift if they want, doesn't make it true. It's because they touched your grille or sensor.

Will removing your grill yourself (or switching to pro) make your radar useless? Maybe, maybe not. But in order to cover your ass, better recalibrate.

Will hopping a curb mess up your alignment? Maybe, maybe not. But in order to cover your ass, get an alignment. (then get a calibration)

I just had it done yesterday. On the repair order, it was described as: Update PCS Software and Apply Sealer.

As far as 'Update PCS Software'.... Is this only for TSS or did they update the entire ECU?

2018 Sport with PRo grill, bigger tires. Just left the dealer and after the SA told me a new radar assembly was needed, they ended up just updating PCS software, applying the sealer/cushion foam and adjusted/calibrated sensor.

No mention of mods or anything, so I’m pleased.

Just got a call from Longo Toyota of Prosper. I have a Sr5 4x4, I swapped in a sport/or grill and larger tires. They performed the recall, no issues what so ever.

    Update
They actually didn't perform any work for the recall due to the tires. They wanted to turn the system off, I declined. Called Toyota and was told that's the new fix for modified vehicles. Yayyyyy

You sound like you tried to order a grille and couldn't get one, and that's your justification.

So far my truck has prevented zero accidents and almost caused 4 due to extremely sudden braking without cause. It has slammed on the brakes at freeway speeds twice due to an overpass without anything else in front of me for a quarter mile. That’s not even counting the couple dozen or so times it’s beeped at things such as the barricade next to a freeway off ramp or someone not even in my lane. It’s an unstable, unreliable system.

Sorry to read about your troubles. My comment was about those that think they are invincible, not about a defective unit.

Mine has been a stable reliable system.

So I just got my truck back yesterday from this recall. What a joke. All they did was un-evenly fit that stupid foam adhesive tampon. How does this do anything? Is Toyota ever gonna solve this stupid TSS crap and come up with a real solution (like a complete replacement)? Plus, I would like to put my Pro grill back on and now don’t know if I should...

Mines in right now. They are doing it with my Pro Grill , 6112s and 26575/16 Tires. Signed a waiver. Pretty sure they are gonna do the work , shut off the System , and then it will cycle back on next time I start the truck. It doesn't stay off. Still happy they are doing something. Another truck pulled in with a bigger tire wheel combo and they think it's a no go. I'll check it out later.

All Done. Oil change and recall. Signed the waiver. They turned it off. I could have left it off. Turned it back on.
