I would steer clear of that dealership. Mine was done in less than 1 hour and was one of the first appointments that morning.

Yeah. They are full of crap. The sensor does not use lasers or some Star Wars technology. I would be really concerned about their abilities. Mine took 30 minutes.

That isn't even installed correctly. The repair instructions speecifically have it covering the sensor and not the wiring harness like that. The instructions have lots of pictures and they messed that up. As the other person commented that just allows water under the foam defeating the purpose.

This is what the waiver says: Note that they permanently disable the PCS sensor so it is always off every time you start the truck and have to manually turn it back on. The dash will also say it has been disabled.

SPECIAL SERVICE CAMPAIGN (K0B)**Non-Toyota-Approved Modification - Owner Acknowledgment Form**

Certain 2018 -2019 MY Tacoma and Tundra - Millimeter Radar Wave Sensor

    Important Information

Your vehicle is involved in Special Service Campaign K0B. It is equipped with a Pre-Collision System (PCS) that may automatically apply the brakes if the system detects a potential collision. Due to the mounting of one of the system’s sensors, it is possible for water to enter the sensor. This can lead to PCS deactivation or inadvertent brake activation resulting in brief and limited vehicle slowing. The remedy involves an update to the PCS software and application of sealer to the millimeter wave radar sensor in the front grille. Also, in the rare case that the vehicle is currently exhibiting the condition, dealers will diagnose the sensor and replace it, as necessary, FREE OF CHARGE.

However, because your vehicle has non-Toyota-approved modifications as noted below, PCS and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) may not operate as designed regardless if this free remedy is performed. For example:

    • PCS may activate even if a collision is not likely.
    • PCS may not recognize a vehicle or a pedestrian when a preceding vehicle or pedestrian is ahead.
For more information on the effects of non-Toyota-approved modifications on PCS and DRCC, go to
      www.toyota.com/content/ebrochure/CFA_TSS_Precautions.pdf.

      Owner Acknowledgement

The non-Toyota-approved vehicle modification(s) present on the vehicle at the time of K0B repair is (are):

Lift kit changing ride height Oversized Wheels/Tires
Grille from different model/trim package installed Other__________________________________________
I understand that, due to non-Toyota approved modifications on my vehicle, PCS and DRCC may not operate as designed. I have been advised that, when the dealer performs the remedy for Special Service Campaign K0B, PCS will be set to “OFF”, PCS will be configured to retain the last setting following a key cycle. Also, a notification label instructing the driver to only use constant speed control and not to use DRCC will be applied to the dashboard. Toyota recommends the PCS and DRCC system NOT be used when non-Toyota-approved modifications are installed on my vehicle. I have also been advised that constant speed control mode should be used instead of DRCC if cruise control is used. If the vehicle is returned to factory condition, the PCS and DRCC systems can be used.

For more information about the PCS system on how to use constant speed control mode refer to section 4-5 of this owner’s manual.

NOTE: While PCS is deactivated, the PCS warning light will be displayed in the instrument cluster and a message will be displayed on the multi information display.

Page |2I understand that my vehicle will need the above selected non-Toyota-approved modifications removed at

my expense to ensure the PCS and DRCC systems work as designed. VIN

Just had my 18 Offroad done yesterday and it has a Amazon Pro Grille, they had no issues doing it and I did not have to sign any wavers or anything.

Well I just took mine in for the 15k service. The service guy came out, took my info. and i head out to the lot to look at new trucks and wait. He comes out several minutes later and asks me if my tuck had been lifted... Yes it has...and has the pro grill...Then informs me they can do the fix, but will have to disable the sensor / system. But that I can turn the system back on using the steering wheel controls.... Or decline for now. I really like this dealer (purchased truck here) but damn. I just declined for now. I'm not experiencing nor have I ever experienced issues with the system.
Oh well...Looking to trade in for a 2017 model maybe...? Found a 2017 White Tacoma Pro up the interstate a few miles...

Why are you wanting to trade for a 2017? Interestingly, I have a 2018 scheduled for it's 15k service and this TSB on Monday...hoping my experience is as smooth as yours.

Mostly said in jest. But the 2017 is the last year model before the radar system was introduced. Wasn't a fan of the idea of it when I bought it. To me it's one more thing that's going to break... that I can't fix!

So I went in for the dreaded recall. Took off my custom car grill back to stock. But I do have a lift. And I do have bigger tires. They made me sign the waiver and offered to turn off The pre collision system but said you will see a yellow emblem on the dash telling you it is off. But in the settings of the software they can have the truck remember the setting without turning back on after each start up. Wasn’t crazy about seeing the light so told them to leave it on and if there is an issue I will come back to have them shut it off through the software. I came home right after the recall (cushion fix with software update) I put my custom car grill on immediately while the adhesive was still sticky so I could re use the bubble gum fix. Now it’s on my bracket from custom car grills. Just went for a test ride and all seems to be working fine. Including adaptive cruise control. I turned down the sensitivity of the pre collision just in case but it feels like it was working just like before without issue, except the recall is done, software updated, and cushion on. If it acts up I can always go in and have them turn it off where it won’t come on automatically. Side note this aftermarket grill has to let in less water I would think.1D72D8DB-6AA7-4786-9C01-FC1A60A5D048.jpg 79C575EC-AF81-43DE-8988-EC0CA35F074D.jpg

Just had mine done. Took an hour. I DID have one phantom incident. Nice afternoon. No rain for days. No one in front of me and it alerts me to Brake! After three or Four beeps it stops and I continue on my way. Now that I think about it I did go through the car wash earlier that day. We will see. Just turned 5200 miles after 6 months.

Is it True that the New Sensor if they replace will still need that foam padding?

Nope. New sensors have three small holes that take care of ventilation w/o the problem of water intrusion. Check previous posts.

Just got the recall notice in the mail. I have a 2018 TRD OR 4x4 with OEM sized tires, no lift, no leveling kit - I do have a OEM Pro grill installed, ordered through Toyota. They even re calibrated the sensor after I installed the grill.

I've probably had five false BREAK alerts in the 15 months I've owned the truck and a few times where PCS worked great and warned me.

Talking to the service director at my dealer this morning, he gave me the "disable PCS, sticker, etc etc" talk then said he was going to get with his "regional rep" or something to that and get back to me in a couple days.

Dealer said even with the OEM TRD Pro grill, it is considered 3rd party/aftermarket. Disable PCS just because I installed a OEM TOYOTA grill? Wow, not happy.

You mod, you accept the risk. In this case you changed the grille and should accept the risk involved with that. I know, its a Toyota part, but it is not a Toyota part offered on the Off Road, which means you modified the vehicle from factory specs. Sorry you are not happy, but what can you do?

Yah, I get it, I changed a grill and I don't have a leg to stand on. It still seems wack to me with the only change being a OEM grill. Lift kit, big tires, rims, leveling kit, sure. OEM grill?

EDIT, what about the fact they accepted the responsibility (and charged me $127.01) to re-calibrate the sensor after I installed the TRD grill myself? Why didn't they tell me the truck was was not to spec and refuse to re-calibrate it then?

His guys, dealer just told me that they can’t do my recall since mine has after market lift (bought it in the Toyota dealer as is) and I don’t have the original grille. They said they can do the recall but they have to deactivate it ‍♂️. So, what’s the point for me to do the recall if it is deactivated anyways ‍♂️. So I guess I’ll just keep it as is. I wonder how many Tacoma’s are lifted? Smh they’re making it difficult for tacoma owners to accessorize our truck.
