I at my local dealership as I post this ... they will not perform the sensor “recalibration” on my truck because of the Pro grille (OEM purchased from the dealership). My truck has not been lifted and they still said I’d have to reinstall the original grille (not happening) so I guess I’ll just ignore the whole recall thing. They wouldn’t even perform the sensor sealing. What a total waste of time!

Just got back from the dealership. I was hoping they would replace the radar unit since I had been having issues with it when and a day or two after heavy rain. The service writer called to tell me the recall had been completed and they HAD changed out the radar unit for a new one. I asked him to show me on the paperwork where it indicated that the unit had been changed out. He pointed at the Job B section and said, "Right there". I left with my truck and inspected it afterward. Turns out he lied about the unit being replaced. Can't say I'm surprised, they have a history of lying about things they say they did. But that's a whole other topic...
Ultimately I'll be happy when it rains again and the PCS doesn't act up. If it does, I'm going to return and demand they replace the unit - hopefully by then, the so called updated designed unit will be out. In the mean time, I wait for the next rain.

Here are pictures. By the looks of it, they added a cushion on the top half of the radar unit. Hopefully that solves the problem :fingerscrossed:

They have to order the part in for me at my dealership. Glad I never swapped out the grill like I planned.

For those paranoid about them removing the grill, it is a 3 minute job. Easiest grill removal of my life. Had to do it when installing the lower behind the grill light bar.

Interesting "fix" & thanks for the info!

Probably will do the trick. It's kinda like an awning for your sensor!

Yes, it is. Funny thing is, when I was still getting the faults after the initial radar unit swap, I thought about making a cover for the back side on my own that would have basically done this exact same thing o_O

I might havta try that. I've had 0 issues with my factory Sport grille & been in some super heavy flooding rain a couple of times, but that was with very little mileage on the truck tho. How many miles do you have on yours?

I'm curious how the fix compares to the revised part. Anyone have a newer manufacture date 2019 that isn't impacted by the recall? Could you take a picture of the back of your sensor?

Just broke the 13K mark. Does the recall affect your truck?

The radar unit I have in my '18 is Part #8821004010 Sensor Assembly, Millimeter Wave Radar. Some Toyota Dealer Parts websites show this part number no longer available  - So I am curious what the revised part/number is.

Ok I'm at about 8000 now. Yep checked the Toyota owners site & had 1 for the PCS & 1 for the Takata air bags listed

EDIT: Build date 1/2018 - Not affected by Takata air bag after all

There were some people on page two with January 2019 build dates that went affected by the recall.

Logged onto the Toyota site and noticed this, then came here and did a search. Going through the post here, even when I receive the official letter I may just hold off until they have the non band aid version fix ...... prefer to not hang out at the dealer for hours on a temporary fix, especially when there are no symptoms from the truck.

I went to my appointment today. Was told that they didn't have a technician there today that knows how to do this work... And they couldn't call to reschedule my appointment before I got there? So I'm going back next Friday.

    Whelp.

Woke up 5am to travel to the dealer and get there at 7am, sat and waited for a few hours to have them tell me they cannot do the service due to the pro grill and that they have to contact Toyota to see what to do.

They wanted to keep the vehicle in the meantime while waiting to contact them, but its my only vehicle to use right now so screw that.

My level of annoyance has me quite tilted, i tried to not let that show but i hope they can get it resolved, we'll see.

    ALCON,

I went to Toyota of Escondido today to have this recall done and they advised that because my '18 Sport did not have the original grill ( I upgraded to a Heritage Pro ), they had to reschedule for another time. Reason being is that they are focusing on getting all of the OEM stock grills done first, then they will look at upgraded grills later once they figure out what needs to be done. My Service Writer admitted that they will eventually get to mine, but they're taking care of non-upgraded grills first.

Figure out what needs to be done? (More like figure out how to avoid doing it) Do it the same way you would a stock pro grill on an actuall pro. I'm going to get a coffee... Let me know when is done.

What can I say, it's a habit. :p At least my Service Writer said they'd eventually do it because I had one of their grills. Albeit an excellent knock off version.

Meh, it's not a big deal to me here in SoCal. My Service Writer is actually a stand up guy and wants in on my plans for an AZ/UT desert trip next spring for some light off-roading more designed for landscape photography.
