Mine needs to be pretty close to the stop before you get the lurching and chirping, the steering wheel is noticeably harder to move in 4x4 though.

With my 2012 Xterra, on two occasions I accidentally drove 20 miles on the interstate in 4H, 70-75mph, and had that sinking feeling in my stomach when I wad pulling into a parking space and realized what I had done. I haven’t noticed any problems but certainly wouldn’t make a habit out of it.

With all the sensors and technology we have today, you’d think the truck could give you some sort of a warning or notice that you’re in 4H while traveling at highway speeds.

I had mine in 4H on my way to work and forgot to switch it back to 2WD; went to park and had to make a turn into the spot...zoiks!

It's a good thing I was going slow...my Sport came to an abrupt stop.

I'm never doing that again! (Whoa!!!)

Also buddy - you are near tons of really, good off Roading in LA. From simple fire roads to some really decent rock crawling trails depending where you want to go and what level you want to get to. If you need an excuse for more 4WD usage, let me know, I can help point you to trails and sites to find more trails.
