    Hello All,

I'm not very versed in this forum, so I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask...but here it goes:

I have been having misfiring problems on the 1997 2.7L and my first inclination is clogged/ dirty injectors. Symptoms are sputtery acceleration and idle when warming up. It usually goes away after some driving.

I have had some luck with injector cleaner fluid (added to gas tank) but the problem has been coming back.

I also have a test pipe installed since my Cat Convertor self-destructed and I don't need to pass emissions standards (North Carolina) . So that may be contributing to a wonky AFR because I didn't change anything to the O2 sensor after putting in the test pipe.

    Surprisingly no CEL...

Ill be changing spark plugs too but i have about 260K miles and I'm not certain the injectors have ever been cleaned or changed.

I cant source any "new" sets online. Only rebuild sets. I am wondering:

    A) Can you buy new sets for this engine anymore? If so, please advise where...

    B) If i must go with refurbished, any recommendations on where to pick up a set?

I have had good experience with 209YOTA1.com, and LCE Performance. But just seeing what the community would suggest.

Also taking recommendations on spark plugs if there are preferred manufactures... My plan is injectors, plugs, fuel filter and maybe new coil packs.

Also if you have other ideas on what the problem is, Im all ears (not a mechanic, but somewhat competent I suppose...)

    Thanks for your time.

MotorWest is often recommended on the forum for injectors. They can service your existing injectors or sell you replacements.

Aisin or Denso are the OEM for the spark plugs in our trucks. Sticking with them is a safe bet.

Lots of folks have used NGK spark plug wires with good success. I think they're the OEM, but don't quote me on it.

The older ones says they fit upto 2000....

so the 98's should work fine.......tiny bit higher flow rate
    no big deal....

I've used the brown oem older ones( matsushita ) on a 2000 3rz...
    just the reverse........no perceivable difference

Rough starts can be leaking/poor injectors....
but it can always be water getting in......and then burning off...
    only time will tell....

I just pulled the trigger on the older ones (Slightly less expensive too). Hopefully they work out haha. Appreciate the input. was able to use an old discount code too which saved me 10%...$300 for a set of 4 but it'll be worth it i think....Thanks!

So I have hit a slight road block....

I have the fuel rail out (pain in the ass). and I pulled the old injectors. They appear to be a different type. Generally they are the same, but the new ones have a different taper and are slightly taller.

I'm hoping someone here can give me some insight. Am I supposed to pull the old gaskets out of the ports and just pop these new ones in? I'm thinking this is the case because the old ones don't have an O-ring on the bottom, but the new ones do:

This is the old and new side-by-side comparison:

These are the "cup" gaskets still in the intake port:

The new injectors connect will with the wiring harness. But don't seem to seat properly with the new bottom o-rings trying to mate into the "cups"

    Appreciate any insight.

In a holding pattern until I figure out if i bought the right injectors or not...HA!

Also, any experienced input on making this easier will be helpful.

Ended up not removing the intake or throttle body, but had to do a lot of fenagling to wiggle the fuel rail out.

    Happy saturday!

After looking at them...It looks like the old grommets are stuck down in the insulator cups...i guess theres only one way to find out.

I was 50/50 on changing mine
OS told me about a member that was fighting a vacuum leak CE lite
He discovered that the brittle cups were cracked, sucking in unmonitored air
    That sold me

there is a thread of mine with pix and a homemade tool to extract those cups
    GL

I sent my old crusty injectors to MotorWest…..$125 including a core charge (bc one of mine was so bad)
    No issues

No you dont have to have new cups...thats crazy...

only if they're old and cracked....or compromised from gasket leaking around it...
those are of an ethyl plastic.....super hard.....more likely to crack from over heating or something ........but not likely just from over time.....

Usually what happens is dump ass move like me....leave one of those old gaskets in by mistake and see what happens.....

that one will seal great........the others will others will to proceed to wash the side on your engine...

    The brown '2-sprayers' came on 98 2rz's...matsushita's

    The pinky's are 2000 3rz 'micro sprays' .....denso's

    CIMG5286.jpg
    CIMG5288.jpg
    CIMG5289.jpg

Only real rule would be they all need to be same year and height so the rail mounts even and level...

Notice the tiny holes in the 3rz's........

    which means they will clog.....eventually

not run forever like the older ones....

    s-l1600.jpg

That's what they call progress .......for an extra 1/10 mile a gallon.....

but only these can be made watertight for TRD applications
