    Hey,

Any advice for a first time owner of a new TRD sport 4x4? Anything to think about when I first pick it up from the dealership? Such as a break in period.

Also, any common problems with the 3rd gen?

    Thanks!

Many don’t seems to agree but I always do oil evacuation. Yes, the rings and seals are bedded from the factory but I think people are kidding themselves if they don’t believe there is a large amount of metal in the oil after the first 500 -
1000 miles of driving. Even used oil analysis are not recommended until these wear metals has settled down.

I remove this oil, put fresh high quality synthetic in. Avoid cruise control and long trips maintaining the same speed. I also avoid going wide open throttle much until 1k miles. My personal favorite oil for the money is M1 European Formula 0w or 5w-40. It may be overkill but this technique has always produced great motors for me so I continue to follow it / oil is cheap.

    Congrats!

You're kidding right? Start reading threads. TW requires you have to do the following: Undercoating. Remove every and all pieces of chrome, silver or the like. Get your new pro grill put on asap. Then drive directly to the tune shop, do not pass go. Leave the tune shop and go get your new wheels, tires (start with 33"), and then lift. While there check on window tint and rain guards. Call Kansas for extended warranty insurance to 10 yrs /125K mi. If your bed is not covered stop in the nearest topper shop and check choose from those option. And there's more, you're just getting started. So when your done with that list stop at the bank for Taco support loan. You're gonna need it. Tacos aren't cheap.

    Good luck!

Definitely read your owners manual as it contains everything you need to know concerning break in, basic maintenance, etc.

Concerning common problems, stick around here but hold your nose brother! It'll take about 20 minutes before you are second guessing everything you have ever known including the meaning of life itself.

You are under warranty any issues should arise just take it to the dealer . I wouldn’t worry about mechanical issues . The break in period is listed in the manual don’t tow or rev the engine to high while in break in period . Pick yourself up an oem bed mat while u are there .

For camper shell, look into bed stiffeners and silicone under the plastic bed rails. At 900 mi I'm on my 3rd locking gas cap and still haven't found one that the computer likes. After hearing about 3gen as a 1gen'er, my expectations for the auto transmisssion were so low that I actually think it isn't bad. And yep am already moving ahead on the 125k mi warranty from Kansas :anonymous:

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
I’d make sure that the bed is properly aligned at deliver time, and that the front left corner of the hood matches the front right corner of the hood.

remember that any “services” the finance manager tries to sell you have at least 100% markup, so if you want an extended service plan (some incorrectly call it an extended warranty) or prepaid maintenance, you can get it far cheaper than they are offering it to you. Same with tint, and any other accessories or “coverages”

I have a CarQuest (rebranded Stant 10504) locking gas cap that has never thrown a CEL Light. Here is a good thread with pictures of caps that work and don’t. My gas cap picture is in post #8.

    In this order or not
    • Factory bed mat
    • Better floor mats….Husky X-Act
    • Tint (ceramic is better)
    • Seat Jackers….Desert does it
    • Ceramic coat…..I like Adams Graphine
    • LOMAX hard tonneau search for TW discount
Then when you get to 1000 miles get an OEM filter and some 0w20. Change the oil and then again at 5000, 10k, 15k. OR if you’re a 10k person follow that route.

    Enjoy your new truck.

My advice is to go straight back to dealership and trade it in for a Tundra lol. I owned a 2020 m/t OR and drove it for 80k. Traded it in for a 2023 new SR OR Tundra and ain’t looking in the rear view mirror. More power, more payload, more power, roomier, more power, more comfortable, quieter and gets virtually the same gas mileage. Only negative that I see is parking in tight spaces and costs 10 k more. Did I say more power? Accelerates without hesitation when you need it. Oh and voice speakers and sound system way better. Probably not as nimble climbing in Moab so if that’s your thing then keep it. Otherwise….

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

Read your owners manual - there is a lot of good information there.

The Toyota bed mat is worth the money.

Beware this forum - we like helping you :spending: !
