It seems like this is a known issue, we should all band together and get a recall going to get it replaced by manufacturer.

And my vehicle is still just under 36000 miles, so it should be covered... right?

    Yes
Bumper to bumper Warranty is 3yr 36000 so if you're under those 2 items Toyota will replace your third brakelight assembly free of charge

UPDATE: got the leak fixed today. I elected to go through dealer just incase it comes back. It turned out to be the 3rd brake light assembly as assumed. $569 later I am leak free ($158 for part and $375 for labor plus tax). I have filed a claim with Toyota since its a known issue to see if they will reimburse the cost. Ill let you all know for those dealing with the same issue

So, how would rain leaking into the truck from the rear cab brake light ever get to the passenger floor.?????? If there was that much water, it would be on the driver's floor also.

That's a long haul and it's uphill after it fills the rear passenger floor.....!

I'm not buying that that was your issue at all.

So they wouldn’t cover, even though a known issue?

If it is the front passenger floor it could be the fire wall.

Truck was parked facing down hill slightly leaned to the right. The water would run down the back window from the 3rd brake light and behind the panels. I recreated and saw the leak for myself before I took it to the dealer. I assume gravity would then take over and the water would take path of least resistance and end up in the floor. I checked all of the other places like the ac drain lines and all. No water from the firewall either. About an hour with the hose and the only place I could get to leak was that light assembly. The only other thing I could imagine would be the condensation from the ac vent running to back of the truck under passenger floorboard but that would have to be a lot to soak the floor. Im still going to be checking as it rains but there no other signs of water anywhere.

Dealer wouldn't because the truck is out of warranty and it wasn't a "safety issue". I called BS and have contacted Toyota directly and working with them now.

Other than that maybe the windshield is leaking causing water to run down A-pillar and drip into floor but I haven't seen any signs of leaking there either. Thats my next attempt. If it shows up again Im going to have the windshield resealed. All other seals and typical points of entry, such as the cabin filter, are clean and not leaking.

I had this problem after Safelite replaced my windshield. Come to find out that they had to consult their database and found that they were not installing the windshield correctly as it was not properly sealed at the bottom. They corrected the issue and reinstalled the windshield. It took care of the problem. I’d check to see if the windshield might have been replaced?

Update: since my vehicle was under 36K warranty, they were able to replace it for free, even the advisor mentioned there was another Tacoma they were working on with the same issue. Clearly Toyota should have a recall for this. They only offered to detail it and clean the carpet, unfortunately when I step inside my truck it still has a funky smell.
