    Gone over the Top..
    Howdy, All.

Well, the funny thing is, i didn't wake up planning on buying a Tacoma this morning, but somehow i ended up doing so.

The day started with a call from the Toyota dealership. I've been leasing an '08 Yaris for the past three years - a necessity of a 1 y/o mortgage at the time,a freshly dead vehicle, and a very tight budget. I had two years to go on the lease, and while it has been a stellar car as far as reliability and gas mileage goes - It obviously is very limited on versatility (ie Big Boy's Toy hauling) .. and i've got a few of those.

Anywho, the Toyota rep called up to see if i wanted to break the lease on the Yaris - apparently they had an insurance co. looking to buy a replacement Yaris with my spec sheet.

I wasn't interested in replacing it with a 2011 Yaris and another lease, obviously - it didn't make much sense in doing that, right?

However, I'd also been mulling over what my next vehicle would be for a few months now. I've had several pickups over the years, both compact and full sized, and a van - and i have missed their versatility in a 1 car driveway.

The call was basically opportunity knocking, just before i needed to start replacing tires and other wearable components on the Yaris. Three years of doing nothing but oil changes, and you just know things are going to start falling off/apart soon.

So, lined up for pick-up (pun intended) next week sometime, is a 2010 base model, access-cab 4x2 4cyl, 5 speed manual Tacoma in 'cloud silver' (i think) with add-on A/C and rigid tonneau cover packages. I didn't need, or want anything too fancy or fuel hungry, and considering the reputation of Toyota's, i don't think i have made a bad choice on this.

It'll be so nice to be able to haul a small motorcycle in the back of it, or tow my 1800 lb loaded rescue-trailer for the street bike if needed.

So, come the next week i will be pulling out my Scan-guage, first aid kit, and the other miscellaeneous crap out of the car and saying Sayonara Yaris, Konnichiha Tacoma.

    Gone over the Top..
Thanks for the welcome, all. It is certainly appreciated.

It was a very restless, lack of sleep kind of night last night. For all the wrong reasons

After posting on here, i crunched my personal budget, and looked at the numbers - I was NOT happy with what i had found. There is a reason i do the occupation i do *not having anything to do with numbers* at all.

First off, I looked at the Toyota website .. looked at the MSRP, and realized that they had overcharged me $1350.00 on the price for a 2010 with A/C package. Not only that, but the MSRP on the 2011 is $10.00 less than the 2010 base model, with A/C equipped as standard, WTF? I'm paying more, for less, a year old??

That was the start of buyers remorse/kicking self for niave impulse purchasing, upon invitation of a sales-person interested in taking back a vehicle before it's time.

The second, and major issue, was on top of the base charges for the vehicle itself, piled on top were rustproofing/life/disability/7 year enhanced warranty which about doubled the cost of the initial purchase price of the vehicle, and when all was said and done with the interest rate.. made this a stupid, expensive, and unaffordable vehicle, even if i was granted financing on it. Apparently i was, based upon their financial work-up, but NOT mine after the fact! Man does not live on Ramen noodles for 7 years straight, i'm afraid.

I notified of my intention to cancel out of the contract in the wee hours of the morning, and called the sales-person on business opening - but, my Yaris was all but gone, with the lease broken and title now transfered, even though i'm still driving it for the next few days.

If push comes to shove, i'll be forced to walk away from this whole mess, come Hell or high-water, and i'll charge-back for my $500.00 deposit on the vehicle. I'll be without my Yaris .. likely footing it down the road to a different manufacturer to get a replacement vehicle that is more realistic.

These are definitely issues that will need to be resolved on Monday, with the sales-person and the finance person in a meeting. I sure as heck would like a Tacoma - it's doable, but not without resolving being charged up with the wazoo with additional costs over the initial purchase price like this dealership seems want to do. I can't afford that.

A lesson to be learned here i guess.. unfortunately too late for me, at this stage. Arrgh.
