Just bought '01 Tacoma 4x4. Any Santa Cruz folks here who can recommend a knowledgeable shop with good experience with these trucks? I'm looking at a timing belt (w/related bits, eg water pump etc), plus bringing all the other scheduled maintenance up to snuff. I'm currently getting estimates from the Toyota dealer and a couple other shops I've used with previous vehicle. Thanks,
    Dan

I don't recommend the stealership in Capitola. 1. they stole by badge off my old grill when I told them I wanted it. 2. they left oil can in my engine after oil change, 3rd and final strike- they f'd up and bent my alignment tab and are unable to properly align after two trys! In general they suck.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not fond of them either based on experience with my wife's Prius. I mostly went to them to get a kind of baseline cost estimate to compare with others.

I'm in SC, but never actually had a shop do any work. My father-in-law recommended a shop, but I can't remember what it was, I'll ask him.

I recently learned about Central Coast Four Wheel Drive just off the highway near 17th Ave. They have a good reputation, but I'm not sure if the do regular maintenance and engine work, or if they just specialize in 4x4 mods and add-ons. I'm planning to swing by there and talk to them today. Worst case they can probably recommend someone.

There are a ton of shops right by them and they might do the work. Assurance Automotive is right next to them and I've done a smog check with them. Good guy and no complaints. CC4WD is a bit pricey from what I've seen in the past, but might work out.
