After 3500 miles and a couple of months I have some questions for the experienced owners here.

    Is this normal?

*It idles a bit rough in drive waiting for traffic lights (600rpm indicated).

*The radio and behind steering wheel (digital speedo) center dash lights go dim, then bright, then dim with multiple cycles around dusk.

*When at idle, I hear a medium pitched rattle, which in my previous experience sounds like loose lifters. It goes away on acceleration but is quite noticeable near a wall when in a drive thru lane. The dealer service writer says it's normal.

    Changes:

*Can I replace just the driver's side window switch block with a smarter one and get more windows to auto up and down? It currently only has auto down on the driver's window and nowhere else.

*Does a fancier model have a front camera that I could install on my truck?

*Near dusk the gauges are hard to read without the lights being turned on. Is there a fix?

So far the mpg has been pretty good with no tank under 22. That's measured and calculated, not just reading the gauge.

    Thanks for your help!

Yep, they idle a bit low.

*The radio and behind steering wheel (digital speedo) center dash lights go dim, then bright, then dim with multiple cycles around dusk.

The light sensor is a little sensitive, so yea.

*When at idle, I hear a medium pitched rattle, which in my previous experience sounds like loose lifters. It goes away on acceleration but is quite noticeable near a wall when in a drive thru lane. The dealer service writer says it's normal.

Sounds like the injectors are just cleaning. Should be normal.

    Changes:

*Can I replace just the driver's side window switch block with a smarter one and get more windows to auto up and down? It currently only has auto down on the driver's window and nowhere else.

I believe this is changeable in software known as techstream. @tonered knows a lot more about that than me, so he'd be able to answer.

*Does a fancier model have a front camera that I could install on my truck?

Do they? Yes. Can they be installed? Yes, but if it's worth the hassle is up to you.

*Near dusk the gauges are hard to read without the lights being turned on. Is there a fix?

I have no issues with mine, nor have I heard of this.

So far the mpg has been pretty good with no tank under 22. That's measured and calculated, not just reading the gauge.

Perfectly normal, actually better than most get.

    Thanks for your help!

    No problem.

As far as idle speed, sounds right, but its not rough. My sr5 is very smooth.
Really don't know what you mean dash lights going dim and bright? When the headlights come on, the dash go dim.
These engines do have more mechanical sounds, but they aren't noisy to the point you think you have an issue.
Your fuel economy seems dead on what my 2020 sr5 gets. At 10k miles on mine it hasn't got any worse, or better.

As far as changes, i wish my truck had a driver side grap strap like the old totota 4x4's use to have. Also too much unwanted technology bs.

Thanks for the responses so far.

    Please keep them coming.

To clarify, the dim and bright changes of the digital speedo and radio come and go several times as dusk arrives. Is that typical behavior? Is there anything I can do to get it to change over at dusk and stay that way?

Idk, haven't noticed anything like that on my 2020, but i've switched a lot of that bs off. Maybe it did the same at one point, and i accidentally shut off or disabled that. Gotta understand i came from a 2001 tundra. This technology bs they have now to me its just that....BS

I have a TRD Sport, but my idle RPM is right around the same and actually quite smooth. There is a setting in my apps that allowed me to change the sensitivity of the auto headlights up or down. I made mine one setting more sensitive and it works better now. Not sure if your trim level has that but you might want to check and see.

All i can comment my 2020 sr5 has a switch that if turned on says ''auto'' in a green display on the dash. I'm guessing their for the high beams?

That's normal. Those lights operate on the headlight sensor which is pretty sensitive at dusk/dawn. If it's a bother, just go ahead and turn your headlights from "auto" to "on."

Short of turning your headlights from "auto" to "on", then no (Maybe that's a possible change that can be made with Techstream though). Those only light up when the headlights are on.

    Thanks for your help!

That's for the high beams. In my experience it turns down the high beams just after blinding oncoming traffic for a second

This is normal...like when you go under a bridge on the highway in full sun and the truck momentarily dims everything. The photosensor/switching is just too sensitive.

For switch/gauge illumination: have you tried adjusting the brightness using the trip odometer reset stick on the dash? Click it to the right to increase brightness.

Edit: to further clarify for you: the infortainment head unit has its own brightness control buried in the menu somewhere and is not affected by adjusting the trip ODO stick.

The head unit and multi function display goes dim when your headlights come on. Try turning off automatic headlights to see if it corrects.

My headlights are never set to auto and mine does this daily. I keep the lights set to DRL until it's dark then move to the On position.

I do not use the auto headlights or auto high beam features.

I have had cars that set the dash lights based on time of day (at least that was what seemed to be happening).

Of the questions I have the loose lifter (injector?) noise is my biggest concern.

I hope to put the truck next to another to compare sounds.

I don't use any of that crap either, but as far as the lifter noise? I doubt your new truck engine has a problem. Without hearing it, these engines are a bit different making more unusual mechanical noises then the conventional type of past gen's. They shouldn't be so loud that you think you do have a problem. Sort of remind me of the old overhead cam straight 6 cyl. ponatic used in their lemans back in the 60's. Those engines were noisy.

Sorry that I missed this tag?

Auto Up / Down cannot be changed in TS. I believe that is is done with new switches and harnesses, unfortunately.

My ACLB has Auto Up / Down on both front windows on both doors. Two window controls on the left and one on the right.

You can turn up the light on your dash by twisting the odometer button. It won't roll over like your radio dial but if you impart rotational pressure on it you'll see the light gauge increase on your dash!

This is most likely either the Direct Injection high pressure fuel pump or the DI cleaning cycle. They both can sound like a diesel engine at idle at times.

Mine does too, I just saw the option to switch it off, and assumed it may exist to turn it on. My bad.

    No worries!

It should seriously be on all the windows. I don't get some of the weird decisions.
