Was wondering if some one could give me some advice on the type of phone to buy that will work with the charging pad on my 2016 TRDOR. I have and old style flip phone now with Bluetooth

    Thanks Tom C.

Anything capable or Qi wireless charging, or any phone with a Qi capable rechargeable external battery case.

iPhones need a case, but there are many Android models that are compatible. You can find unlocked phones on Newegg that you simply have to request a new SIM card from your carrier for.

Just understand that even though it's a phone compatible with Qi Charging, the wireless charging function is pretty weak in the Taco and is more of a "maintainer" I have a Galaxy Note 5 and the thing literally charges at about 1% per 10 minutes. If it's below 20% charge when I throw it on there, it won't charge at all..... If you want to charge effectively you really need to use the oldschool cig lighter 12v.

I only say this to manage your expectations for such an expenditure just to use Qi. It's really not something I'd go buy a phone for just to use. Unless you badly need a new phone.

I would get a phone you would like all around and not just one that can charge on a wireless base. I only say this because from TW it seems that Qi charging isnt the most popular choice but charging from the USB is something most people do and probably works better.

I can't say from experience because I have an Iphone. Although I wont switch over to anything else just because it wont charge through Qi.

Good to know. I was looking into a phone case Qi charging thing. But if it's that bad I'll scratch it off.

Inductor coil on the wireless pad gets too hot for my liking. It works, but not great for the amount of head transferred to the phone. Stick with the cords. I've got a wireless adapter on my iphone, which is useless. Also have a Galaxy S6 with wireless charging, but its pretty weak on that also. Need to align the pad's sweet spot with the phone's in order to get optimal charging ability.

I used the Qi charger for a while and it could barely charge my phone when running maps and bluetooth for music. I also didnt like that I couldnt see the phone to view the map while driving. I have stopped using it and just plug in to a 2amp usb cig charger and use a phone mount so I can see the maps or change music without having to pick my phone up.

Smitty's right. It's (USB) max charge rate at roughly 1AMP or 1,000mAh. I've measured the output. The other Cig lighter options are much better alternatives which actually push past 1.5A. The cig lighter circuitry is done at a lower safe rate, but the tech and USB port's output were carried over from vehicles many years back, before the higher charge rates were implented into factory ports. Sometimes, shitty cables also attribute to lower charge rates if you have the ability to check. Buy yourselves a good cable/ cig USB adapter and be done with it.

Samsung S8. I have the S7 and it's nice. Probably will get iPhone 8 or Edition or whatever they end up calling it this fall though.

Ive had nothing but Samsung devices for the past four years. Bought an LG G6 this morning, very impressed with it. My carrier had an awesome promo on it.
