They do have the 3 peak snow rating.

Yep sometimes I wonder how credible that rating is. I have run one tire with this rating and it was piss poor in the (real) winter conditions... and I ran another tire with this rating and it was very impressive.

Both from the same company... go figure.

Any additional input on these? It's gonna be a tossup between these and the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W when it comes time for new shoes. I'm leaning toward these due to the lighter weight in the E load.

Yea. I’m eyeballing these hard too. If the fall rebates get these in the ballpark of the at3w I’m in.

I was looking at the SL but just saw the E is only 6lbs heavier.

If I see any good rebates I'm in. I'll run my snows for the winter and then put these on in the spring. No rush.

Not really any additional info but I’m still liking the Pirellis. Very little treadwear so far but I forgot to record the mileage when I switched to my winter tires, so that’s not very helpful. They do have a 100,000 km warranty though. I was looking at the wild peaks when I bought these tires but the weight of 46lbs for the P rated Falkens was a bit heavy I thought for the amount of highway driving I do.

    Hmm . . . none as yet, that's why i'm here . . .
A lot of people are starting to pay attention to these tires. I see good reviews, but not done my own research yet but I will. I'm leaning towards these.
    Wild-peaks have some competition here.

I agree. I almost pulled the trigger on some Goodyear Ultra terrains with the DTD $100 off sale. But I keep coming back to the Pirellis. Too bad they’re not part of the sale or I would have swiped the card.

@Discount Tire whats the outlook on sales or rebates for these?

Any updates from anyone on these tires? I found 'em on Tirerack but there's very little info out there. I've been looking at all the regulars (Wildpeak AT3, KO2, Discoverer AT3) but very tempted to test these Pirellis out. I'm also still waffling on whether or not I should opt for E load or stick with standard. Either way, the Pirellis are the lightest or close to it.

I run these in an E Load and I love them. Minimal road noise, have done great in the ice/snow we have had so far in Colorado, and aren't as harsh as I thought they would be. Puts the stock Goodyears to shame and still much better than the Duratracs I have run previously. Don't have any info to compare to the Falkens unfortunately. Buddy runs the Grabbers in E Load and he loves them. Something to consider as well.

What sold you on the Grabbers over the Pirellis?

That’s really good to hear. I’d prefer not to have a stiff ride but I also don’t need it to be cushy. I actually haven’t been looking at the Grabbers. I put them on my Impreza but didn’t get to really test them before I sold it. I’m not a huge fan of them aesthetically And they were kinda loud on my Impreza. I feel like louder then the LT285-70-17 Toyo RT that are on my Tacoma now.

The grabbers have a little more weight, deeper tread & american tires i believe

Just took another look myself and in the size I want the A/TX is heavier than the K02 so that's definitely not going on my list.

Yeah. I want to go as light as possible. I'm running Winterforce 265/70R17's as my snow tires and I can definitely tell the difference between these and the stock street tires. It handles quite a bit different - which I mostly attribute to the weight.

I haven't had snow tires myself but based on general knowledge and comments from friends I may attribute bad handling to something else. I'd expect worse mpg and maybe some sluggish acceleration due to the weight but not handling. I know that snow tires are generally soft, have deep tread and lots of siping. Specifically, the siping causes the tread blocks to deform a lot more than they would otherwise. This is good for wet/ice traction but bad for handling.

My truck (just bought it) came with big wheels tires that weigh a calculated 90lb per corner. I'm hoping that this is the reason why I only managed 15mpg on my 350mi drive home. With the wheels I bought and tires I'm looking at 65-73lbs depending on whether I go with standard or E load tires.

I just put a set on my F150. Only 400 miles so no helpful observations, but I find nothing to dislike yet.

They had caught my attention earlier, but I wasn't sold on them until I saw some in person. I was thinking about just pulling the trigger on BFG KO2's until I saw these. Just looking at them I like them better. I was looking to move up to a little more aggressive tire and these are just short of a dedicated mud tire. The KO2's have a little more aggressive tread on the outside edges, but these are more aggressive overall.

If you're member of Sams Club they are $80 off for a set and I got an extra $60 off by paying for them on Black Friday. I paid $814, OTD after taxes and fees for a set of E rated 275/70/18's. I had to order some in my size and it took about a week. Paid for them on Friday to get the other $60 off and they mounted them on Saturday.

They will be offering the same $60 off again this Saturday the 14th.

Stop worrying about the weight or E rated tires, neither are an issue. If E rated tires ride rough you have too much air in them and the weight won't have any effect on fuel mileage. If you're losing fuel mileage it is because it is a larger diameter tire and/or the more aggressive tread has more rolling resistance. I have the older version of this Pirelli on my Tacoma in an LT 265/76/16. They are 15 lbs each heavier than the tires that came from the factory and are 1" taller. The ride is exactly the same as before as is fuel mileage.

This is the tire on my Tacoma. Since it is only slightly larger and with a mildly aggressive tread neither fuel mileage nor ride is sacrificed due to the E rating.

@Marshall R thank you for your insights! It's strange about the weight thing as I seem to see a lot of conflicting info. A friend just put the ~53lb and 1" larger K02's on his 3rd gen and said he didn't really notice an mpg difference. But, I keep reading elsewhere about others noticing significant decreases - and it didn't seem like it was due to a massively larger tire.

Not a Sams Club member but perhaps they'll be on sale somewhere else too, I'll look into that.
