Super happy with the topper! Thomas and Katy made sure to go over every aspect of the topper; opening/closing, preventative maintenance, design, etc. They even installed the 270 degree awning I brought with me, super cool of them.

I'm currently at my in-laws for the rest of the week in Orange County, then I plan to take it out on it's maiden voyage to the Sierras on the way home to San Francisco.

However, I have been able to park it and pop it up at San Onofre and other beaches around here and I've gotten a lot of compliments!

Once I'm back home I'll need to work on fabricating my Prinsu rack to make it work with the topper.

Looks awesome! Was there any wind when you popped it up at the beach?

    Thanks!

Just a light breeze. This camper is stout, it's not going anywhere.

Besides the gas struts, there are also aluminum panels inside that help keep the top up.

If you've ever ran an RTT on your rig, you can't even compare it.

I thought my whole tent was gonna fly away when I camped in Death Valley last Fall.

That’s great to know! I ran a RTT for awhile and I still get some ptsd when a gust rolls through, even though I sleep in the truck bed now. Do you have to lock the panels in place after you pop it up?

There’s dual sided velcro to keep the panels in place together once you popup the camper. If I remember correctly, Thomas described it as supplemental structure to the camper once it’s popped up and not load bearing like the struts.

Re; Prinsu racks. They can add a shim under the camper to provide a small amount of elevation; enough to give clearance between the rack and the bottom of the shell. Without this, the shell is apt to bounce off the rack when off roading gets rowdy..

I just checked out their shop and Thomas was very nice and answered a lot of questions. My only hang up on these campers is the lack of big side doors, but Thomas said they are working on that and they will roll it out “soon”. He showed me a aluminum door prototype that was lying around- looked like super pacific but smaller. Excited to see that on the topper and how easy it is to access gear.

I think they can put on the Frontrunner Gullwing side doors. They look plenty big...

What I understand is they currently offer the Tern overland hatch at $775 each. That’s what they had on the unit I checked out at the shop. That’s fine, but it felt a little crammed poking my head through and imagining grabbing some gear. I mostly posted just to say that it is exciting that they are working on an in-house solution that will be cheaper and larger, as they haven’t officially announced that anywhere I see online.

Thomas actually also told me they are about to announce a wedge-style camper “priced just under GFC”. I assume that’s the big news they are getting ready to drop.

You are correct; he said the wedge would be cost effective because it less labor intensive than a full popper.

Funny that I have the same skis (Zero Gs).

I am a current SP Owner and have enjoyed it very much.
I have recently heard about the Topotoppers and am interested.

Winter perfomance is a huge issue for me, and although I have been satisfied witht he SP (particularly since a regular ARE canopy had been my prior solution), there are some things about the TT appeal to me:
    -Lower profile in the wind
    -insulation package
-fully accessible truck bed (long bed) when sleeping platform is retracted.

One thing that will be a drawback is the lack of the fully accessible side doors on the SP.

    Weight appears similar.
I did notice that the TT quote page recommends a bed stiffener.
Since I don't do hard offroading, does anybody see why I would need one for the TT?

The bed stiffenees help keep the factory three peice design from becoming an obtuse angle ..holds the top corners together ..... so the SP bed doesn't retract all the way ???on a 6' bed??

For those of you that have had one for a few months now, how are you liking it? How is the mattress? I went and spoke with Thomas and Katy a few weeks ago and I was very impressed. I've been wanting something like this for a long time and have been debating which one to get. Ultimately, lead times and manufacture location has prevented me from pulling the trigger. I'm not willing to wait more than a year to get it, or drive for more than a day to pick it up. After visiting their shop, I spent about a week figuring out how I wanted it. I drove back down there again to look at a few more things and ask a few more questions and I was sold. Ended up ordering one and should have it in the beginning of November. They said that this will be the first one they build for a Reg Cab. Can't wait to see it on my little truck.
