Just the weight of the camper shell unit only? Good Looking GSD. Mine is 12 years old, "Santino" rides in my Tacoma everyday

With all the options that I added, it weighed in at 420lbs.

Yeah, I weighed it after I took the old setup off and then weighed it again with this setup. To try and be as accurate as possible I filled up the gas tank both times, using the same pump and parked at the same spot on the scale. I subtracted the 70lbs of the awning. The weight adds up quickly. I optioned it with almost all the options.

Thank you! He's such a good pup. He just turned two not too long again and is finally starting to fill out and calm down. He was 90lbs at his last vet visit. Let's see a pic of Santino. They are such good dogs. Sometimes people laugh when they him and I unfold out of the reg cab. I'm 6'5" and he's not exactly small lol. There isn't a vacuum in the world that can get all of his fur out of my truck hahahahah.

I would have to say that the only con would be not being able to get a fan or solar up top. If that is something that you wanted, you could probably put it on yourself and let Thomas know how much weight you added and he can work out if you needed different struts. I'm tall, so the Badlander was the only way for me to go. The Mesa has a lot of pros, over the Badlander. Besides looking damn good, it is lighter and cheaper. Another BIG pro is the 4-5" of room with the top down, to keep a mattress and/or bedding up there. If I wasn't so tall, it's probably the route I would've gone.

What do you mean by the bolded part? The website states " -5" of space to stow bedding while closed." for both models.

If you’re not tall and you don’t mind having to swing yourself around to get out of bed over your pillows, then the Mesa will be great. I personally couldn’t sleep on an 80” bed platform with a 35 degree sloped roof on one side (anyone over 6 foot likely agrees). If u can fit, and don’t mind having to sleep “backwards” or with your head in a wedge, then go for the cost/weight savings!

Just ordered my topper for February install date! Looking to get a rack on sale this month. Thinking of getting a prinsu habitat or sherpa animus. Do we know how long the over hang is over the cab? Previous post mentioned needing to cut part of the prinsu, if this is the case I might go with the sherpa rack since it has more length options. Thoughts?

The Badlander only has enough room for the 2" mattress.

I hear you. I'm 6'5". Us tall people are used to our feet hanging over the bed, but smashing our head or feet into a wedge is not an option.

What is causing the difference, the extra tent material on the Badlander?

While my Badlander is closed, I'm able to fit an Exped Megamat Duo and a 5 degree double sleeping bag. There is a lot of space to store bedding.

The main difference is a different roof design. That is also why the Mesa weighs so much less.

Is that deflated? I bought the same mattress, just haven't put it up there yet. I still have the 2" mattress that it came with up there. I've wondered if you just open the deflate valve on the mattress and close the top, if it would deflate the Exped mattress enough to close.

Yes, while deflated. I open the deflate valve and lay on the mattress for a little bit to help the closing of the Badlander. Initially you will have to loosen the clamps to lock it down and torque it a bit overtime while the bed deflates a bit more. I've been doing this since I got it and have not had an issue on the trail.

Cool thing to note with the Exped in the Badlander is you can easily put the bed into couch mode by either Taco-ing it or putting it in an L shape.

    Also, Exped Electric Pump FTW!

Thanks for sharing- really stoked to hear this because that’s the exact thing I was planning to do with my Badlander I’m picking up next month. Great to have it validated before purchasing the Exped.
