Hi all. I'm strongly considering a Tacoma as my next car. In fact, I'm visiting a dealer on Friday, and may very well come home with a 2018 TRD Offroad double-cab long bed. I'm considering the truck for (in general order)

    (1) Daily driver
    (2) toy hauler (road, triathlon, MTB bikes, Kayaks)
    (3) light-duty off-road driving, mostly sand/beach.
    (4) potential camper (sleep in the bed, with a cap)
    (5) potential camp trailer hauler

I'm looking forward to hearing from the group and the collected wisdom of the crowd!

It will fail you in that role. Every time.

    :D

I use my truck for similar as your description, but fairly low miles per year. I went the used route. Couldn't see $35k for my usage. I mean I'll probably only keep it another 18 years or so.

    Welcome.

And hide your wallet. This place will suck it dry. :spending:

Since you'll likely wind up with a 3rd gen, start off by looking at threads by @mesojdm for some fine ideas.

    Welcome to the forum!

I don't think you'll be disappointed with a Taco. I have an '08, which has been a daily driver and has about 195k on it now.

I built some storage in the bed for climbing and camping gear, and I can still sleep on top. I have a roof rack (Prinsu) for carrying the kayaks and bikes (not at the same time... yet...).

We used to tow our 21' boat with it to and from home at the beginning and end of the seasons and it did well enough, a small camp trailer wouldn't be a problem though.
