Make sure you get all the air out that you can. Turn the steering wheel lock to lock several times. Drive through a neighborhood with a lot of turns.

The screen in the reservoir, did you notice if it was clogged up?

    This.

PS pumps usually come without the reservoir. The clogged screen is what, many times, causes the whining, not the pump itself.

that screen needs to be perfectly clean.

i had to drain and refil my PS fluid like 10 times to get all the crap out of it and THEN i could clean my screen and it would actually stay clean....
everytime i would clean it, it would get clogged again in a day or 2, so i had to fill and drain a bunch for it to stop. it sucked.

this is great info many will benefit from, lots of times people don't realize how much crap circulates through that system and flushing and replacing fluid doesn't always get it all out.

Damn I seriously spent hours cleaning it..high pressure water cleaners flushing with a whole bottle of atf...the fluid came out very easy...it's super quite now but has a little noise backing up and turning the wheel

well maybe it's the pump then.... is it brand new or used?

what i would do is just remove the lines from the rack and see if the fluid is dirty while it is draining. if it's dirty, drain, refill, drive, drain and refill. if it is not dirty, then i don't know..

but have you only removed that line one time drained and refilled?
and this is where you are now?

if so, you need to do that about 5 more times.

i really think it will help, and make sure your screen is clean after.

i am serious, i had to flush mine like 9 times to get all the shit out. (i blew the gears in my prior pump), the fluid was completely metallic even after draining and refilling 4 times, not shitting you. and it took a ton of times to actually get the fluid clean. it is pretty stupid. but if you dont do that the screen will keep getting clogged and it will continue to whine.

or your pump could just be bad and you would do all this for nothing.
    But thats my experiences.

no, don't go punching out the screen, geez, its there to filter the fluid so it protects the pump and steering rack from contaminants that make seals leak and parts wear out.

just take the time to properly clean the screen out, and flush all the crap out of the system. the screen is doing its job as it was intended and the cup comes out in your hand so you can blast it from the bottom side with spray cleaners to clean it then flush the crap outta the reservoir cup itself so it is all clean then everything is like new again.

punching out the screen is just lazy and wreckless and it WILL do harm the system over a long period of time but often you can get away with it if you are lucky but remember you are taking a risk on ruining your steering rack by punching the screen out

I really don't think its the screen though. I've cleaned it multiple times and fluid poorr a steady streAm out of the resi so its not stopping up the fluid.... I know the pumps don't like 35s but jeez. Two of my friends are running ps fluid in these pumps, I have valvoline atf and I'm thinking of using a diff atf and flushing it AGAIN at the rack

Check to see if one of your pulleys are frozen, my AC pulley froze and screamed like a MF'er, driving on the way home and my belt snapped and it went away. Replaced the pulley and belt, hasn't been a problem since :notusre:
