We got a new beagle puppy a few weeks ago and we have him an igLoo dog house. We put a cage roof on to keep the water off of him and his area. We are trying to find away to keep him warmer now that it is winter. I filled his dog house and all around it with the wood chips used in hamster cages and other dog lots. I then layed a pillow on top for him to lay on. Is there anything else I can do to keep him warm?

With my allergies inside is not an option and begals shed like crazy. We would put him in the garage but we are really trying to make his outside house nice enough he can stay there and will not poop, pee, and chew everything in the garage. He is a big chewer. We are going to put a door on the dog house to keep out the wind and maybe a heater

My parents bought a home in GA, just shy of Murphy, NC. The previous owners had a place for their dogs under the house(built on a hill) . Kept them out of the wind and rain. My folks keep their dogs in the house. P.S. They have a heart:p

My experience is that you need two dogs too really keep each other warm. Especially since you have a Begal, they aren't really known for being cold weather dogs. Most dogs other than Northern Spitz type dogs (Huskie, Malmute, Akita etc.) Aren't equiped to be out doors in severly cold weather until about 2-3 months of age. However, contrary to all this if the dog isn't frozen in the morning you are probably ok.

Exactly how cold does it get at night in N.C. anyway? I just realized thats where you are from.

The dog is almost 7 months old and 15 pounds or more with lots of hair. He does not appear to be cold and if we let him into our workshop with a heater going he tends to go back outside into the cold rather than stay in the warmth.

We got it because we wanted a dog. As for training him not to pee and poop inside its to a big deal since he want be coming in. To help with the chewing the got him some bones made for him to chew on

Why would you get a dog if he's going to just spend all his time outside?

    Poor puppy.

Ha I'm going to post pics of hi. When I get a chance, he is a great dog and has it made. We let him run free, play with him for hours. Eats the best food and has weekly baths. This dog is spoiled rotten lol

A tired puppy is a happy owner. You need to walk the puppy and wear him out.
