If I remove the clock/air bag warning light located below the radio do I need to disconnect the battery first? I heard if you remove this piece when installing a new radio and the battery is still connected it will trigger an air bag warning light that the dealer has to reset.

Not the case on my 09. While disconnected it will come on but it will reset once the connection is remade.

That said, disconnect the battery when doing anything electrical on your vehicle.
