They're coming out with the scrambler next year on a ram chassis. The douchebag ceo of fiat said they would purposefully make the scrambler expensive so it would be "exclusive".

As a former yj owner I almost bought the jl (2018 wrangler) over the tacoma. So glad I didn't, if you go on the wrangler forums a few owners have oil leaks and busted radiators at only 20k miles

If you're talking to me, you're wrong. I am far from a Toyota fanboy. There's a lot of things I don't like about my truck and I will probably, more likely than not, get a full size Ford next time. I like Toyota but not to a fault. Good guess though.

The second gen always looked pretty sweet at the time, 4x4 configuration, but they sure butchered the look with the 3rd gen.
When I worked for the railway we had 2nd and then 3rd gen. Not the most reliable trucks but small and tough enough for rail yard duties.

It will be just as craptastic as every other Chrysler product.

To note my last 3 vehicles were 2 Dodge trucks with the Cummins and a Jeep. Each of those had something I couldn’t get anywhere else and I had to live with the inherent problems. Wait until their new midsize is 5 years old and looks ten because of all the rust.

Total sales is in no way an indicator of the better product, especially when the product is a vehicle foreign vs domestic. My father works in central Pa. at a coal mine. These workers are die hard GM, no matter what! They hate Ford and Chrysler but especially foreign, regardless of quality, dependability, performance or longevity.
I am a member of the carpenters union owning a Toyota, believe me I have had more than a few hateful comments thrown at me from other members. I have also heard speeches on job sites from shop stewards stating, "we owe it to our country to buy American regardless of the quality and expense". What an asinine statement.
All that said, this is why total sales is irrelevant.

Please read what I was quoting, in that sense it is not irrelevant. To say your mechanic friend works on a lot more big 3 trucks than Toyotas will always be true when the big 3 sell so damn many of them. I understand what you are saying and agree, but in the context of what I quoted it is totally relevant.

Edit: I guess a better way to put it is that if reliability were the same, then you would still see big 3 trucks in the shop 10 times more simply because of sales.

Reliability is not the same. A more reliable product will not need to be serviced as much as a less reliable product. Yes, if there were 10 times the Toyota sales there would be 10 times the complaints/issues. That said, the product, Toyota, with equal sales would still not have as many issues as the big 3. That's basically the definition of reliability.

Toyota does the majority of its manufacturing for North America sales, in North America, at factories with a well paid union workforce. Dodge/Ram/Jeep is owned by the Italians, so that is as foreign as Toyota.

The “big three” all have plants in eastern Canada, but the only company to ever set-up shop where I live in British Columbia is Toyota with the aluminum wheel plant they run in Delta B.C. - called CAPTIN - Canadian Auto Parts Toyota Inc. I’ve even worked for them as a contractor from time to time. When the 2008 recession hit they laid off no-one. They kept everyone on in anticipation of a recovery.

If I want to “buy local”, or support local middle-class families, I gotta buy Toyota. Good corporate citizens as well. From the attached article:

“After the economic downturn of the late 2000s, and the 2011 earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan, production at the plant almost ground to a halt.

Instead of closing its doors and laying off its full time employees until business picked back up, CAPTIN bent over backwards to keep everyone employed.

Basically, we shut down for three months here. We cut back on some contract work, but never laid off any workers. That is the Toyota way”

Again, not arguing that. Context is a wonderful thing and I suggest you re-read what I quoted.

Here is the referred to quote. The mechanic's most common cars are GM, Ford and Dodge.
So by your quote above, Toyota would have the same number of complaints as the big three if sales were equal. Unless you have some hidden sarcasm here, I understand the above to mean Toyota reliability is just as bad as the big 3

I already own a Tacoma and a Ram 1500 and I am happy with both. I will never get rid of the Tacoma but I could part with the Ram.

If it's as reliable as the Dakota, Toyota has nothing to sweat.

No not what I meant but I can see how you get there. I'm just saying a lot of people here complain about the 3rd gen so imagine if they sold 10 times more, that's all. I totally understand where your logic came from though.
