New rear end

    Im just put 30s on my 5 lug auto with a fat bob lift. and it has really seemed to kill my power. what rear end would you recommend for a lot of interstate driving. what a prerunner rear be a good choice?

    3.73 3rd member swap from a V6 should put you back to near stock with 30" tires. The 4 cyl auto is 3.58 stock ratio.

Bilstein 5100's front and rear, OME 885x coils, Light Racing UCA's, 2" Toytec AAL, Hella 700ff lights, Falken Rocky Mountain AT/S 265/75/16 Load E 10ply, Blu Logic handsfree
    I'd go 3rd member from 4cyl Prerunner or 4x4, they come with 4.10 gears stock...

    With 30's probably very close to stock.

    4.10 with 31's would be stock, with 30's it would geared lower than stock. Either way you would get more torque to the wheels, but run higher rpms. If you search around on here you'll some links to gear/tire ratio calculators.

    We can't run rear 3rds from 6 lug trucks can we? I don't know about 2nd gen but 1st gen have different ring gear sizes... HOWEVER I know the front diff is a 7.5" ring gear... So can we use front 3rds from trucks that swap to lower gears?

    Yes you can run a 3rd member from a 6-lug because it includes the gears and the housing. You are correct that you can't run the ring gear from a 6-lug in a 5-lug housing.

    Yes correct, that's why if you want to re-gear a 5lug, you need to purchase used 3rd member from 6lug truck not just the ring and pinion... Yes it sucks...

    That is because the carrier in the differential of 5 lug truck is different from 6lug truck...

    Oh that makes re gearing seem pretty easy then... I mean so many people are going to 4.30 and 4.56 and 4.88 that we should be able to pick up the old gear sets all day, no?

    As far as I know nobody makes 4.10 gears as aftermarket. They come as stock in the +05 6 lug 4cyl trucks (can't remember about 1st gens). So your choices are to either buy a new set from Toyota or try to find a used set from forum classifieds or ECGS may have some after taking them out from someone's regear. Either way you go, I would try to get a complete third member that's already setup. You might pay a little more up front, but it saves you the trouble of finding someone to install and setup the gears. All you have to do is swap the third member out. Also, make sure whomever you get the gears or third member from, that it is the 8.4" and not the 8" elocker!!

    just use a 3rd member from any non e-locker 6 lug tacoma. 4.10s will be fine. probably find used for $100. if you are 1st gen 5 lug, different story.

    not worth the money unless ur going to 32 and over .......... i have had 4.10 4.56 and now 4..88 with lsd
