My rear Kings did the same thing immediately. It’s really just weeping from the wiper seal, not leaking. It would take 100,000 miles to deplete the shock oil at that rate. Monitor the shock, what you’re looking for is a static drip on the cap near the shock piston where it exists the body. Residue is fine, a drip is a leak.

I had what I though was weep and it turned into a leak.

Good news is that King bent over backwards to make it right.

Just wondering OP if you had done anything to the shock after. I'm in the same boat. My shop told me it was kind of normal but I'm not exactly sure coming from using other shocks that were fairly good at keeping shock shaft clean

Brand new leaking shocks is not "kind of normal", or not in my case anyways. Kind of makes me question the shop with a booshit response like that.
You could verify, it's not some type of manufacturing oil (doubtful), by wiping dry and rechecking.
Unfortunately, in TW style, OP never bothered to come back to share results and hasn't logged in since October of 2021.

No boot or other protection for the shock shaft... I'd have to wonder if the shaft got nicked by a stone kicked up by a front tire, and is what ruined the seal.

Thats what I figured. I actually let the shock sit for a few days and nothing leaked out. But noticed it would while driving. Makes me think its just a lot of road grime, but feel odd that its an oily residue. So not exactly sure.
