I am not the original owner of my truck and i just got u joints replaced under this warranty enhancement. Call Toyota customer service with your vin # and they will confirm your truck qualifies(1 (800) 331-4331).
    Then call dealer for appointment.

I can confirm this. I am not the original owner, 120,000 miles. Toyota extended this to cover a whole bunch of trucks. Dealer will inspect and if this is confirmed to be the issue they will fix.

I just called and my truck qualified, my local dealer never mentioned this so the 1(800)331-4331 lady just transferred my call and set me up for an appointment tomorrow. Hopefully this fixes my longtime vibration issue.

Had mine looked at today. They ordered the parts. Did not specify what parts, and service counter guy didn't know what specifically they ordered (had some other maintenance done as well). Hopefully its fixed within the next few days, will report back!

Toyota just approved to have my 2013 done under this as well. Its been all preapproved and ordered, however the propeller shafts as they call them, are on backorder right now and I will get mine as soon as they come in.

Good info here. I dropped mine 2014 off for brakes and now I’m getting a new carrier bearing and new driveshaft. Never got a letter though.

Dropped mine off this morning. They are going to replace all 3 U-Joints under the warranty. FYI I have a 3” lift and they didn’t even mention it

07 Tacoma....Just got my letter...... i was already headed in to have a giant rust hole in my frame checked out,,, i may come home with a new frame and shaft!!

Does anyone know if the shaft issues are affecting 4runners too? We have a 2012 4runner and I think it has the same vibrating/sounds as my truck sometimes.

Had Toyota check out my vibrations. They verified that there is all kinds of problems up and down my drive shaft. They want $1500 or so to fix it. I asked them about this warranty enhancement and they said they have never heard of it. So this morning I called Toyota customer service and they said sorry your truck isn’t covered. What a great start to the day.

Call Toyota customer service with your vin # and they will confirm your truck qualifies(1 (800) 331-4331).
Then call dealer for appointment. If you don't have the issue they may charge a diagnostic fee.

    OKTACO,
Seems you work at a Toyota dealership. Would you be able to provide the procedure the service tech should follow to determine if the U-joints and propellant shaft have failed and require replacement by Toyota under the customer support program?

Is the tech able to determine this with the vehicle on the hoist? What are they checking and how do they make a determination of failure? Would it not be easy for a mechanically inclined person to perform these tasks right at home prior to having the dealer diagnose?

Is it necessary to drive the vehicle? How would they isolate the U-joints and shaft as the problem unless they are a seasoned Tacoma tech? Is the shudder/vibration primarily noticeable when the drive-line is under load?

Question about the prerunner access cab: are all the u-joints the same size?

I replaced my u-joints and 2 were "bastard" joints with shorter ears, and one was the standard size.

My thought is that the previous owner had an issue with the drive line and had something fabricated for the truck.

If it's not the stock setup as I suspect, I will try to get Toyota to replace the shaft.
