I had a loud screeching coming from my rear end, it started about 2-3 weeks ago. Took it into the dealer and they immediately ordered me a new driveshaft. They claimed that the carrier bearing was starting to go, and there was play in one of the u-joints. My taco has 136,000 Miles on it and none of my u-joints/bearings had been replaced since the truck was made. The mechanic replaced the driveshaft in 30 mins and sent me on my way. The noises from my rear end have been completely gone since..

    Total cost: $0.00

Just had my frame replaced a month ago. Now I get a brand new driveshaft along with it. Good stuff

Haven't tried it yet. I have a custom shaft I had made that did the trick for me. Very interested to see if this also works as a solution. I'm going to swap it when I get home after my business trip.

Oh Ya that is just a bad u joint they get squeaky when all dried up and fried . They didn' replace my whole shaft or carrier just u joints and it was also free. Toyota even took me home and picked me up cause they needed the truck most the day lol I'm going to get my trans flushed I think it's the shudder from the torque converer. I drive a lot 140 miles a day fluid is prob smoked

Just take it easy with flushing all the fluid out if you havent done the trans fluid in a while.

It was recommended to me to do 5 or 6 drain and fills with 2-3qts of fluid instead of a 9-10qt flush all at once

Hmmm I have heard in the past that new fluid will make a worn out trans let go but I think the fluid has got to be thick or somthing and it' locking up the torque converter . This is the first automatic vehicle I've ever owned i knew i should have kept looking for a 6 speed man

OK guys so i went to the dealer sat there for about 2 hour... i was told if they didn't find anything wrong with the shaft they would charge me $50.... i was worried because i really don't feel vibration. But even with a lift they told me i need all new U joints and it was covered by warranty on top of that i got a free inspection!

Why is this? Seems counterintuitive to contaminate the new fluid with the old stuff. Seems pointless...

It all is.... ujoints, driveshaft and carrier bearing! When i brought it in he immediately told me they didn't have the parts and it would be a couple days. But I ended up only qualifying for the ujoints.

That means his ujoints haven't been so bad and so long that they damaged the drive shaft. Had they been Toyota would have replaced hat too (along with carrier bearing)

Ok you cant just bring your truck in and start thinking you get a box of free parts and labor. The existing parts has to meet a certain point of damage to "QUALIFY" for replacement. If your ujoints are fine than NO FREE PARTS. Its not a recall.

I think they they should have replaced all of our carrier bearings too. Why only u joints . Some of the vibs might be from the rubber being soft from wear making drive shaft flop around
