Checked my VIN for giggles and this popped up.
Upper child anchors not welded properly.

A weld that can break. I am interested to hear what the final remedy is.

There had to be a welding automation change after 21MY. Curious how they’ll handle this as well.
23s aren’t even on dealer lots yet and this happens.
Usually anything related to safety, auto manufacturers will issue a stop sale.

Sounds like Toyota is ready to ship the 2023s with the defect and will worry about the remedy later.

Is there a stop sale on affected Tacomas?

What’s the “upper” anchor? Is it the one behind the seat?

My recall was completed few days ago. Dealer inspected and did not find any issues so no repairs were done.

Dealer still needed to clear the VIN for me to sell it.

My kids are in their 20s and refuse to use the car seat when they ride with me so I don’t think I’ll even worry about this one

While this recall doesnt affect me, I would never ever let them weld on my truck. I guarantee they will not prep the area right, they will not refinish the area right, and it will rust out within 5 years.

If their "solution" for the 3rd brake light is any indication, they will provide the most hackish fix possible.

Seems to open Toyota up for future lawsuits having dealerships reweld safety structural points... I guess they are used to that though with the hacksaw gas pedal fix.

They will send it to their body shop for the welding. Dont get me wrong, that dosent mean you will get a good welder. I would weld it myself and go get it checked for the tsb and marked as not requiring the remedy.
