This thread is kinda old, but I've since taken my bike to a local track and had all kinds of fun.. The track is called snow creek. It's not the best place because it isn't maintained and a lot of atvs go there. And there are lots of rocks. Anyway I think I did pretty well for my first time at a track. I didn't realize how much of a workout it is to ride those things hard. I layed it down a few times in this really muddy section, and then right before we left I came off a jump really awkward and I knew right then I was screwed. I landed and the back came out from under me and I ate it pretty hard. My buddy told me another guy who has lots of riding experience did the exact same thing on the same jump so that made me not feel as bad lol.

I had a question for you guys though, I cleaned up my bike and changed the oil and cleaned the air filter etc etc. Well I was wondering what you guys do to clean the air filter? My buddy told me to clean it in gas. The first time I just blew it out with compressed air and then oiled it.

I was also wondering what you guys do to clean and lubricate the chain? I took the chain off my bike and scrubbed it with a wire brush. However on the inside in the tight spots the brush didn't really get the dirt out and I didn't know of any other way to do it. I then sprayed the whole chain with a dry lubricant and put it back on my bike.

If you guys have any advice or know of any other/better ways to do those things....or if the ways I did it work fine I'd love to hear from you guys.

Revival! Use dish detergent to clean the air filter, gas will break down the material faster. If it is an O-ring chain, don't use a wire brush, just soak it and scrub it with a nylon bristle brush. When I know I won't be riding for awhile, my chain is off and soaking in a bucket with an inch of motor oil in it. I have a YZ426f with a lot of hours on it, stay up on basic maintenance and most any 4T will last a long time. Get an hour meter for figuring riding time/oil changes. Keep good grease in your bearing and they too will last a long time. Check out Thumpertalk.com
