No, you have to trim AND adjust the hinges on the tailgate to get it to close.

Does anyone have an idea how this is done?

I did this, like, three years ago...

I honestly don't remember it being a big deal. I remember I adjusted the latches on the bed of the truck, but I don't remember adjusting anything else. I don't remember touching hinges or anything on the tailgate itself.

And the rubber bumpers compress with time.

Installed (finally) this weekend. Didnt have to adjust any latches, but noticed the rubber bump stops pushed the tailgate a bit out since I'm using both the steel reinforcement AND the composite cover.

Proceeded to test it out by loading my bike AND my cousin's s1000rr. Worked like a champ! :D

Too bad my loading ramps scratched (down to the bare-metal) the mediocre harbor-freight 'bed liner' paint that i did 3 coats on the tailgate with!!! :(

I'm the proud new owner of a 2014 Tacoma. I was doing some research online to find some reinforcement for my tailgate when I stumbled upon this. I'm very interested in purchasing one of these.. You plan on making more in the future?

I have two here that are on hold for local pickups. However, they may not be 100% committed. I'm checking with these guys to see if they would like to give one up.

    I'll let you know.

I bought one from J and had it Line-X'd. Was not cheap, but should last the life of the truck. I asked the Line-X dealer if loading motorcycles would destroy the Line-X and he laughed at me.

Here's what it looks like from the outside. I had them line-x the whole thing except for the inside panel (didn't want to compromise fit) They primered the interior side to prevent rust.

Fit is excellent, no issues with shutting my tail-gate. Although I had to adjust the hinges due to my pop 'n lock. One side of the rod is reversed, so the left/right sides don't un-hinge equally. Obviously no fault of the reinforcement plate.

I also have an X-Runner with some suspension work, and the extra 40lbs or so behind the rear wheel gives me a bit of extra traction! Side bonus!

Subbed. Any more coming? Shipping to Canada? I noticed some people have the smaller lip edge that goes over the back of the tailgate and some have the large lip that goes over the back.
