    • driving home from work, the right turn signal started flashing fast
    • obviously, the front daytime running light / turn signal bulb was burnt out
    • i changed BOTH of them to new Phillips 4157NA
    • (stock is Sylvania 4157NAK)
    • at first, the daytime running lights didn't go on, only the turn signals would go on
    • 10 minutes later, when re-staring the truck, the daytime running lights went on, everything normal.
    • drove 5 miles. ate dinner.
    • re-started truck, now the "check engine" and traction control lights are on.
this truck has been 100% perfect for 75,000 miles.

what the hell is going on now.

But it may be unrelated... "check engine" will disable traction control so it is normal to have CEL and TC/VSC at the same time.

Disconnect your negative battery terminal for 5 minutes. It may be a computer "Brain fart". See if it resets the codes.

What truck or vehicle are you referring to? Your profile says "none yet" for vehicle.

Coincidence. Lighting and obd systems aren't related.

Any ideas why the running lights didn’t go on the first time I started the vehicle? Or the second?

It wasn’t until a 15-minute break that I started the truck and the running lights went on.

Does the system shut down the running lights if one of them burns out, so you don’t look silly going down the road with one daytime amber running light? Maybe it needed time to reset.

When I first started the car, the hazards and/or flashers worked, the running lights did not.

Now they do. 5 miles later, the check engine light goes on.

I am going to put back in the old bulbs, even though one is burnt out, and see what happens.

Sounds very similar to what happened with my 09 Hyundai Elantra. I replaced the tail/brake light bulbs with LED's with internal resistors. ESP light came on, speed control was inoperable. There was a TSB out about a brake light switch causing this problem so I had the switch replaced. The tech also stated that the speed control module needed to be replaced. About 5 miles after leaving the dealership the ESP light came on and the speed control didn't work later when I was out of town. A very dim light went one in my low powered brain about the coincidence on this happening in conjunction with the change over to LED's. I purchased new 1157 bulbs and everything was back to normal and I haven't had the a relapse. So give the proper bulbs a try and report back.

When did you look at the lights? Mine don't come on until I'm in gear.

Mine come on when the truck is started and the e-brake is not applied. If the e-brake is on when the truck is started, the DRL's don't come on. As soon as it's released, they come on.

    YOU GUYS ARE EFFING BRILLIANT!!!!!!!

the above two posts are exactly correct, in fact, i now clearly recall seeing the amber "reflection" in my white garage door as i backed up. that's when they came on for the first time.

i never noticed this happened. NO WONDER the DRL's didn't come on when i started the truck to check them! and no wonder the turn signals DID work.

oh, and amazingly, it WAS coincidence. the gas cap was loose, and the tank was near empty. i read in another thread that this is the most likely time the cap will trip the check engine light.

i read in another thread that the "traction control" light sometimes come on by default when the check engine light comes on.

that is completely retarded, as i read in another thread someone almost slid off the road in the snow - turns out his GAS CAP caused the system to be that way. but that's another story.

thanks dudes! i learned something today.

    :) :D :) :D :) :D
