    Where were you 6 months ago when I was looking into new taillights?! They look much better then stock. I followed the same path as you, only I tried the black background LED tails. Didn't like that the chrome daisy was still way to in-your-face for me, and it didn't look like the smoked versions were dark enough. I ended up with just some regular bulbed black taillights with the round reflectors. Fit my taste perfect.

    As for the eBay "stigma", it's all personal preference and taste. I agree with you more then Yosh (although I definitely respect the skill and time he's put into many of his mods), but to each his own. We all make decisions based on trade-offs like $$$, skill set, and capabilities. I figure for the price, if they start going bad,,, buy another set. By then you may be ready for another style anyway.

    Also, on the 3rd brake light, I've seen the posts about the 1st gen 3rd bake light cover being the same shape, but with different hole placement. What was your experience, simple replacement, or did you need to modify the 1st gen lens for your Tacoma? Also, where did you get it from and how much?

    It was a direct fit for me. I bought it on ebay for like $50 and it fit in perfectly. The lense on the ebay one isnt removable like the OEM one. All screw holes lined up perfectly. The only snag I ran into was, the 1st one the seller sent me was faded on the outside trim of the housing. I emailed him and he just sent me a new one for free and let me keep the 1st one he sent. So I decided to tinker with it.....taped off the lense, sanded outer faded chrome trim, used adhesion promoter, then rattle canned black. Looks good, so now I have 3 of the 3rd brake lights, the oem, the 1st one he sent me that i painted and the 2nd one he sent me as a replacement.

    Just an update, I have owned these lights for almost 3 years now AND NOT A SINGLE ISSUE!!! AS a matter of fact, when I traded in my 09 a few weeks ago, I slapped the OEM lights back on, kept these and put them on my new 2012.
