If these are so easy to install, would they be easily stolen?

They have a video showing how to modify it to accept a hitch pin. So it could be locked in.
Of course, if one was really stupid, they would have made it out of aluminum…..

And if one had more time than ideas in their head, they would have welded it up already

Also, on the 2nd Gen option, @caribe makaira came to the rescue (as always). The housing on the truck is a 90980-11640 and the trailer plug side is a 90980-11641. The terminals are a Sumitomo TS090 (smaller) and TS187 (larger). So if one wanted, a tee could be made. The 3rd Gen (and pretty much all current truck trailer plugs) is made by Aptiv. Those are a little harder to source, but not impossible.

@Diode Dynamics just an opinion, but the trailer plugs didn’t really start becoming a “standard” until 2014 or something, and then it took a few years to roll out. So the universality of these is going to more limited to late teen models. I’m no expert, but I do have a “Diode Dynamics” tramp stamp tattoo….

I am not convinced. I’m beginning to think it’s conceivable that DD’s harness will work. Cannot find a way to separate those four tabs on the truck. Proprietary tool, of course. That might be the secret to this whole thing.

These photos stolen from another thread:

    upload_2023-1-14_15-45-26.jpg

once the internal connector is removed entirely (not necessary for DD) you can see those tabs. In 20 degree temps attached to the truck, I just can't get it to separate.

I was told about 8 weeks.. "We are making some progress and will add the 2nd gen Tacoma harness to the website once we have it available. However, it may take about 8 weeks for these to be available."

Dang seems like a pretty good solution for extra running light in dusty conditions and of course extra reverse light

@Diode Dynamics have you guys considered making a harness that simply plus into the 7-pin socket? If someone goes to tow a trailer this product has to be removed anyway. Why even bother splicing or making a custom T-harness? Just take a 7-pin plug pigtail and populate the appropriate wires into the light?

If this is resolved for 2nd gens with a plug-n-play solution it'll likely end up in my cart :D

I don’t know that you’ll find a clean mating terminal for those? I would just tee it off of here:
    8292649C-A967-4C02-A5CC-443943021651.jpg
That could be done pretty easily. Make a tee harness for that connector going to a 7pin metripack trailer plug that would plug into the DD harness. Ideally, @Diode Dynamics would eliminate the metripack portion all together and just use that connector. Would be less stuff under there at least.

It’s a cleaner solution tapping it from the rear. So you don’t have a plug and wire running over/around the bumper.
Im sure it will get resolved soon. If not, I’ll order some connectors and resolve it for you guys :rofl:I just know DD could do it for much cheaper than I could.

Not really, just a short stretch of wire wrapping from the plug under to the back of the trailer hitch. To be fair I have the diaz fab relocation bracket so might be a little different for stock

It may be different than stock then? I just know I’ve done some testing with the trailer plug like that, and it didn’t look good. But I also have a 3rd Gen. But I think the stock plug is roughly in the same spot on the 2nd Gen?

Yeah 3rd gens have a much better stock location. The 7pin on 2nd gens hangs down under the bumper to the left of the hitch frame. Hence why the Diaz fab relocation bracket is so popular.

you're 100% correct. Couldn't be done. I misunderstood the construction of the unit. Finally had a warm day here and was able to dig into it. So...I'm game for your "TEE" solution if it's not too far off...otherwise I'll return the whole unit and hope they come up with a solution someday.
